Great venue on the Harbor- beer and wine were served with cheese and crackers and finger sandwiches, Beautiful evening and sunset!

This man was considered the first interior decorator, it's amazing, the house, the history, the location all within 45 minutes of Boston. It's best to go in summer, the tour is about an hour or so but it's all so fascinating. Don't you wish you could add a room to decorate when you run out of space? I would recommend this if you are in the area, after the tour you can continue to tour some of the best coastal scenery around? Add this to your list of things to do even just take a day tour andthen go have some lunch FUN

Lots of nooks and crannies, mosty a museum, but the grounds and the interior are like a Victorian castle with enchantment around every corner. THe views of the coastline and harbors are magnificent and so is the history. Wonderful mansions and private gardens to view along the way. Well worth the small admission charge.

Unfortunately we got there too late for the last tour but they were nice enough to let us walk the beautiful grounds. Definitely on our list to get there in time on our next trip to Gloucester.

Many of the rooms were designed to showcase what Mr Sleeper could provide for his clients. Instead of a catalogue they could come and witness the plan in person in the gorgeous seaside setting. Other rooms were created for his own purposes , such as the kitchen he reconstructed from his mother' s childhood kitchen. There are many surprises ( wooden curtains, mirror behind the door) and beautiful gardens to be visited. Periodically longer tours ( 3 hrs) are offered than the 1 hour ones normally offered. Our guide was a young man who , while friendly and fairly enthusiastic, gave a rushed tour with little opportunity for questions or reflection.

So interesting. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and offered great insight into the lives of both owners of the home. Much more than just a view of the collections therein.

This is a nice place to visit while in the area. The furnishings of the home are very unique and interesting to see. The guides are very knowledgeable as well. It's a nice thing to do if the weather isn't great as well.

A must see home in the area. To see what people had then and to understand the family that lived there.

Quirky and fabulous! Our guide (regret that I don't recall her name because she did a great job) was knowledgeable, fun and engaging. Only bad part was not being able to spend more time in each of the rooms...this house begs you to linger!

I've been here several times with friends and always enjoy it. Today I stopped here with my husband after a late lunch in Gloucester and we just toured the grounds which are breathtaking. While in the courtyard we could see the Hammond Castle directly across the water and were surprised that we could see the Boston Skyline to our left. I would definitely recommend taking the tour of the house, it's really quite interesting.

Went there with my family the outside of the place is beautiful but definitely not worth $15 to go see yhe inside of the house. The rooms are really small and hot. The decor is ok nothing to go crazy about but some of the styles are really nice. Tour guide person was a little rude and didn't explain the rules of what we were not allowed to do. Was not aware that we couldn't take any pictures or touch doors. The tour was fast not an hour felt in a way that we were rushed in each room.

My wife and I arrived just before the 3 o'clock tour. This gave us time to take photo's of the various small gardens which have been upgraded. The dahlia plants were stunning and combined with the views over the harbour made a great start to the house tour. Alas, we could only do the one hour tour which covers 25 of the 46 rooms that Sleeper created. The three hour tour is more leisurely and refreshment is provided half way through. Sleeper was a very gifted interior designer and the 5 dinning rooms are each very different with their own theme enhanced by his amazing collections of glass, china, slip ware let alone all the unique panelling and doors he took from other houses and designed these into his unique summer and weekend cottage. I recommend that this tour will blow you away. My mind was racing to recollect all the original colour schemes and themes. Try it!

Worth the visit. If you like funky houses, this is the place for you. Close to Good Harbor Beach, an easy and pleasant bike ride.

The outside of house looks like an English cottage but the inside is made up of salvaged colonial local houses that were being torn down. The Chinese wall papered living room is fantastic.
