It used to be pretty polluted from all the factories, but in the last few years has really redeemed itself. Fantastic trout fishing (catch and release) and now open for recreational use which is really wonderful. I hope to see more and more opportunities to enjoy thee river which winds from Royalston down through to Gill. Very scenic, lots of good spots along Route 2 to park and enjoy or test out your fly fishing skills.

This river was a constant for me for 4 years of commuting from Montague, MA to Worcester, MA, winding as if does along route 2. Beautiful in the morning with mists rising, and some old New England villages along the way.
