Buck Hill Dam Conservation area in located on McCormick Rd In Spencer, MA adjacent to the Worcester County 4H camp - Camp Marshall - and within the State forest lands. Easiest access is from Rte 31 to Thompson Pond Rd to McCormick. This is a quiet and peaceful area with a few hiking trails. There is a small pond, good place for the kids to fish. The trail around the pond is kept fairly cleared and is an easy stroll or walk, and takes only 20-30 minutes. There are some wildflower and plant identifiers on that trail. You can often identify animal tracks such as deer and raccoon, at back side ponds edge. There was also a large beaver lodge in the pond at last visit. There are more extensive trails beyond the pond trail, one that leads to a waterfall, but are more strenuous than the novice pond trail. And close to the mid-state trail that runs throughout the general area. This is also a hunting area in the fall, so don't venture off that trail and further into the woods. There are a few picnic tables. The parking area is small and only holds a few cars. There is a no fee area.
