A modern science museum filled with a number of interesting interactive mechanical and lighting exhibits, including some quirky ones too. Good for about an hour or so if you have time to spare, otherwise give this a miss.

The MIT Museum is not just for geeks. It's small and inexpensive, with lots of cool stuff. Kids love it. This is not a major commitment. Drop by for an hour or so, and dig all this brilliant techie stuff, some of it quite beautiful, some clever and funny, all of it inspiring.

Be sure you know why you are visiting. Are you a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie (one out of five) or a science enthusiast who simply wants to drool at the static displays of some of the Institute’s seminal achievements (five out of five)? Me, I expect a little of both (three out of five) but I’ve only rated it two. Here’s why: MIT is a world class institution, the museum is not. To MIT, their continuing work is more important than the museum – as it should be. But for the average visitor, usually a tourist, the continuing work might be lost on you (apologies if that’s not the case) and you simply want to ‘key into’ the exhibits. That would be helped a great deal if what little interactive stuff there is actually worked. Two screens on airport runway lighting systems not working, Sorry, I don’t know why it’s not co-operating today,” said the assistant and that was that – MITs bang up to the minute work rendered inaccessible to a paying visitor. What could I say? Nothing – the poor guy’s not the technician after all. Upstairs, a static display of robots is just that, static – there is literally more animation in paint drying. Next we get to the holograms; they look great. Unfortunately, someone has gone to the trouble of producing text that explains their development but you can’t follow it because six of the text blocks are in darkness (there’s a lighting rig overhead and the situation would be easily remedied by anyone who’s ever changed a light bulb or been roped into amateur dramatics!) The percussion display was not playable as a piece of A4 paper declared it ‘out of order.’ You get the picture I hope. The mundane stuff – restrooms, immaculate. Coat storage - yes but not secure. Lockers available for bags, you just need a quarter (25cents). No food on site. Gift shop – I actually like this as a source for future gift hunting. Value for money? Well I wouldn’t want to pay any more than the $10 entry fee. The problem is less about the exhibits, many of which are truly fascinating, and more to do with poor operational management. We came away agreeing on the shortfalls and discussing how we would run it differently – that’s the kind of experience it was.

Great interactive exhibits on computers, science, technology, artificial intelligence, robots and more!

If you are a real fan of technology this place it's for you. Holograms, robots, photography, machines with moving parts, and so on. The holograms are awesome. You can see there some MIT's contributions to knowledge of mankind. I love it.

This place is terrific. Admission was included with our hotel and I was enthralled. I learned new things and saw actual examples of stuff I knew. The gyroscopic navigation system from an Apollo rocket was exciting. There are educational exhibits for kids and lots of hands on.

Good place, showcases the history of innovation and innovators at MIT. Not a large museum, but quite fascinating to explore the inventions and discoveries, and the people behind the science and engineering that are ubiquitous in our everyday lives.

The holograms are really impressive because they look very realistic. There are also some machines you can try for yourself which is fun. Furthermore there are some robots to see. Worth a visit, especially because of the holograms!

My wife and I visited the MIT museum while in Boston. We were able to enjoy this for free, since we had the Boston Go attraction card. I believe normal price is 10 dollars. The museum itself is great, it had alot of past projects by students and professors and also has interactive projects as well. This would be great for kids age range 8-12, or anyone interested in technology or robots. Don't forget to go to the MIT co-op for any MIT gear you want, it is a little hard to find but is directly across the street from the main entrance to MIT

I belong the the "nerd" group so I enjoyed my visit to the MIT Museum. During my visit there was a sliderule demonstration, and though I am already familiar with it I found it thoroughly enjoyable. The hologram gallery was quite captivating. Kinetic art is pretty novel; the student projects however were not super interesting. There were plenty of interesting gadgets for sale in the souvenir section (which is in the non-ticketed area) - nice for gifts and keepsakes.

Initially looks like a small, single floor exhibit but there is quite a lot upstairs! Entire sections on robotics, holograms, moving parts. I'm no engineer but I like to nerd out so I enjoyed it. Cool stuff downstairs on the history of the internet, hacking, video game development. No kiddos = bueno.

Great history and exhibit on robotics, spent an hour there, could have spent a lot longer. Will be backwith the 13 yr old grandson who is on a robotics team. Easy access from western Mass. via I-90. Parking on the street, could be an issue during tourist season. Went on Oct 31 so no kids there but I'll bet it's crowded with school groups during the rest of the school year.

Interesting museum with lots of cool stuff - holograms, mechanical sculptures, etc. It's generally $10, but for some reason our visit was free - not sure why.

The special exhibit, 5000 Moving Parts, was probably the highlight of my visit to the museum. It was riveting. Also enjoyable were the interactive exhibits and there's a fun, if small, museum shop.
