My husband and I have just started visiting wineries over the past year and realized that Crow was only 15 miles from our home. When we arrived in the parking lot (we were the only car there), our tasting hostess was outside and invited us to come inside (which we found very welcoming). The winemakers have created 2 flights of wines to sample for $6 each or you can sample any of the 8 wines for $1.50 each. Our hostess was very informative and took the time to explain the process used to create each wine. She expressed real interest in which wines we liked and what we had to say about them. Our favorite wines were the Rose' and the Sparkling Vidal, but all of the wines we sampled were excellent. While we were there, another couple came in to purchase Angus beef which can also be purchased at the tasting room. Additionally, you can purchases eggs from the chickens that roam freely on the property! Our hostess also gave us a calendar of events for the upcoming months which include pizza nights, wine and chocolate pairings, 4 course meals, etc. The property is gorgeous and we can't wait to spend a warm spring or summer evening on their patio enjoying some wine and grilled Angus beef.
My wife, 18 month old and I had an amazing time at Crow Vineyard last Saturday. My wife and I have been to more than 75 wineries across the Mid-Atlantic region and this is one of our new favorites. We arrived right at noon(opening time on a Saturday) and were walking into the tasting room just after Roy(the owner) flipped the open sign. He immediately apologized for being late(30 seconds at most by my watch) saying that he was just cleaning up after birthing a calf! How awesome is that! After tasting all of their wines, which were excellent. The Dry Rose did not disappoint, the sparkling vidal was excellent and the reds were robust without being over powering. Roy was very welcoming and took us and our 18 month old to see the winery, which was in full swing, family and friends including a group from a nearby smaller winery were working and taking breaks from sorting grapes and filling steel tanks with soon to be delicious wine. Then we got to see the baby calf, so new it was still wet! My son was super excited to see the chickens, and the tractor shed too for that matter! Then we went to see the rest of the cows and meet the farms' dogs. We left with a few bottles of the Barbera Rose, great memories and a variety pack of their grass fed beef that I can't wait to eat. And they have a B&B that my wife and I can't wait to visit(without the little guy tagging along!).
I took my mom who is 87 for a little surprise afternoon drive and went to Crow Vineyards. We had a great tasting guide, Doug, who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the vineyard, the wines, and the whole process. It is an old dairy farm now converted to a B&B / vineyard- Brilliant! The tasting room was comfortable and inviting! We had such a great afternoon there and I know I will be back again!
What a great start to a new adventure: visiting the vineyards of Maryland. Crow Farm - originally known for its grass-fed beef which can be purchased at the wine-tasting room - planted the vines with the intent of selling the grapes. The grapes were so good the family is now producing their own wine. Doug was our wonderful 'pilot' for our wine flights. The Rose is refreshingly light yet with body, the Vidal Blanc was just yummy, the reds are distinct and though I'm not a Chardonnay drinker, Crow's is properly oaked. Kennedyville is about 30 minutes from Chestertown which is a great little town for shopping and dining. The Crow Farm is also a B and B. Along with the wine I purchased one of the beef packs. And oh boy!! is that beef ever SUPERB!!
We had a very nice visit to the Vineyard. The young man serving the tasting was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. If you are a lover of dry wine, this is a great place for you. I especially liked the Barbera and the Vidal Blanc. We even left with grass fed beef that they had for sale as well! I look foward to going back when I'm in the area again!
Crow Farm has a variety activities -from wine tastings to vineyard tours. Farm stay B&B, their own beef for purchase. Check their website for different events. The tasting room is open on weekends.
Crow now has a wine club where you can get their excellent wine quarterly. Roy and Judy were both there when we arrived to pick up the shipment. Both are very knowledgeable about the products, as is Doug and Wendy. Service is always charming and friendly. I am very glad to be part of the club and also would highly recommend them. You must realize that they are also a farm and a B&B on top of the winery. BUT I've never encountered a problem with them and I've always called ahead during the week to ensure that someone will be there and available. I think they are the best wines in MD. They also have Kilby making some of their wines into their ice creams. We tasted the rose and the Barberra. The rose was mixed with vanilla and marischino cherries and the Barberra was mixed with bing cherry and chocolate chunks. Both were wonderful. Crow is innovative. I like that.
Superior Rosé; a little pricey, but well worth it.Arrived here early afternoon midweek. Greeted by "closed" signs. Noticed a middle-aged lady leaving the premises in her SUV. Inquired if vineyard was open: "We don't open till Noon"; "Uhh, my watch reads 12:30"; "Gosh, how time flies!" Proprietor reversed direction, parked vehicle, and opened the salesroom, but was unable to furnish any recommendations, opinions, advice, or information concerning product.Nice wines. Lackluster, unenthusiastic, reluctant service.
We happened across a table at Chestertown's Farmers Market. Doug, a very nice young man, offered us a taste of the Crow Vineyard wines. Since my experience with Md Wines at this point was not good, I accepted to be nice, but wow, this was good wine, dry, but not too dry, with excellent taste and finish. He gave us a card and told us how to get there. We arrived around 1 pm, and the tasting room was empty. Doug was just coming in from the Farmer's Market. The owners were there and Judy Crow started the tasting. Doug took over about halfway through. All of the wines were so good, such a refreshing change. The tasting room started to fill up, so we took the winery tour which was given by Judy and ended up by Roy. Their sparkling wine is wonderful as well as their whites and reds. Go, enjoy and be pleasantly surprised that wine making in MD is this good. We also visited St Michaels Winery, but if you have to choose, go to Crow, you won't be disappointed.
