We've been going to the park since I was in my late teens, when it opened. It is well maintained with nice lake, tennis courts, trails, and picnic areas. Playing tennis is great because the really take care of the courts.
Path is nice for walking, picnic tables and pavilions for use. Paddleboats, canoes, kayaks for rental.
I got there every year with my younger son to fish. My father lives in AA county and joins us from time to time. He wishes he could live there, its so beautiful & peaceful. Lots to do too...picnic, fish from piers, rent boats or kayaks, visit the nature center or bring your own boat in. I wish I grew up here!
This park is a gem... beautifully maintained and managed- staff are friendly and helpful. Even on a holiday weekend it was busy but still peaceful. We like to take a picnic and sit down by the lake near the boat rentals.. you can grill if you want. The fragrance of the pine needles is so lovely... there are wonderful hiking trails and plenty of playgrounds for the kids. We are over 62 and get in free which is great!!
We took our kids fishing with my dad who loves fishing. We fished most of the morning then walked on the trails later! Fun!
We have taken our kids fishing and boating at Piney Run park and always have a good time. The lake is really beautiful. There is a small fee if you are in the county, and there is a fee to rent the different types of boats, but it's not expensive. They do need more people to run the rental stand however as there usually is a line to rent something and get set up. Overall a great family day with the kiddos.
Piney Run Park and lake are run by Carroll County, MD Department of Parks & Recreation and is open to the general public. There is a fee to enter the property. It is "per car load" and the rate differs for county residents and non-residents, but it is still very affordable. There are beautiful grounds, picnic tables, pavilions, hiking trails, tennis courts, playgrounds, and water sports. You can rent rowboats, canoes, paddle boats, and kayaks. Life jackets are provided and a short lesson is conducted if you are a first timer. Fishing is permitted both from the shore and from boats. Swimming is not permitted since this is a reservoir.Private boats can also be launched for an additional fee. There is a launching device for kayaks on one of the piers. There are bathroom facilities in several locations. There are also pavilions available for rent for large groups. The nature center is also outstanding and great for all ages. This local park is an outstanding attraction and well worth the admission price.
