About 12 miles north of downtown Westminster on Rte. 97, this old homestead is set along a small stream up on a hill. The site was a camp for Jeb Stuart as he headed north for the Gettysburg campaign so is a "must see" for Civil War visitors. A narrative plaque gives full details of his journey north. The homestead has been completely refurbished and stands as an eloquent reminder of the expansive farms in northern Maryland in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.. Unfortunately, it is only open to the public from June through September so not accessible for this visitor who will return again in the summer.

Visited here for several hours as part of a civil war weekend demonstrations and battles. Entrance fee of a three dollar donation. Everything was being done by volunteers and their dedication for such things was very evident. Toured both the mill and 1800's family homestead. Since I like history it certainly was a learning experience and history came alive with people getting involved here with this event,

The Union Mills Homestead is really a interesting place to visit. You could easily visit on your way to Gettysburg. It doesn't take long to tour. The working mill is great to see, and you can buy various flours, corn meal and grits to take home and use to bake or have homemade grits. The house is interesting too. Also, they have several nice events throughout the year.

Stop by a working historic mill and buy a bag of fresh ground flour. Tour of family home full of great artifacts is worth the $5 admission.

We have enjoyed this location for family picnics. There are tables available and the grounds are fun to explore. There is also a field for ball playing. Bathroom facilities are available. We have gone even when the facilities are closed.

We went when the mill was operating and found the tour very interesting. The grounds are also very nice. We also went when there was a Civil War encampment. This is a great place to visit if you are interested in history. You should make sure it is open for tours or special events in order to really enjoy it.

I grew up in the area of the Homestead. There are several nice fields, a nice fishing pond, old buildings, a pavilion to rent, and many nice events held. It is a nice place and a very historic place. There are many different events held through out the year as well.

We go for the Corn Roast every year, but the MD MicroBrewery is here every year and lots of other events as well. There are fields for outdoor games, a blacksmith forge and an old barn, a creek to fish in and a historical display. Rent this place for an outdoor wedding reception, a family reunion, a craft fair.
