A short boat trip gets you to the island where the temple is now- it was moved because of flooding. Once there you cannot believe how big it was- same as all the other temples... fabulous photo opportunities. A hassle free shop and a lovely cafe that sold really nice mugs of coffee....and twinkies!! what is that all about??

Fascinating and beautiful on it's own island with many interesting features you need a guide to show you.

The Philae Temple is the main attraction in Aswan. The original temple had been flooded several times. In order to prevent its damage, especially during the construction of The Aswan Dam, the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project dismantled the temple and reassembled it on the Agilkia Island. A short boat ride will take you there where you will see the beauty of the preserved temple. This temple had been dedicated to the Goddess Isis. The Sound and light show is displayed there in the evening.

journey to island was enjoyable and the history behind the temple itself amazing..Carving and the structural arrangement of columns and walls show how serious workers they were.

We were on 20 minutes drive and then 10 minutes boat ride to Philae Temple. The temple complext is well looked after and the scenery is stunning. The interiors are clean and well lit. The complex is superb.

Agilika island is misunderstood as Philae island by many, Philae island had been the initial residence of the temple of philae but soon after the construction of Old Aswan Dam it was frequently flooded and thereby authorities shifted the temple to Agilika island .Presently, Philae island is submerged in lake Nasser. Albeit, the Temple of Philae is a beautiful temple and depicts authentic Egyptian architecture but some parts are disintegrated due to time and the shift. The journey to the temple is itself mesmerizing due to the scenario and it is a very calming and revitalizing experience .Also, a great spot for capturing beautiful shots.

Wonderful preserved temples rescued to an island between the old and new Aswan dams. Don't miss this as it has a huge variety of interesting buildings and monuments. Worth having a cup of tea and relaxing. If arriving independently, beware of the ferrymen and rows over charges!

You approach this Temple by boat. It has a long history from the Pharaohs, to the Romans, to the Christians, and it is the use of the Temple by the early Christians that make it so fascinating. But the most amazing thing is that it was moved from it's original island which was submerged when the first Aswan Dam was built. Walking around it we couldn't believe that it had been taken apart and rebuilt. Well worth a visit.

this place is known for temple and Nubian people who are nice at heart but bargain for boat rate. You can trust them and go to island to see the place with fix time as they only wait for an hours else will charge extra, hence tell them exact time for yours stay in island

The whole experience is magnificent, taking the small boat in the Nile to the island, watching many small granite rock islands in the Nile, birds, locals with their colorful customs and beautiful songs, hand made antiques, colored hats at the small port, at the island you enjoy the Philae temple, beautiful cafés and extraordinary views of the Nile. I highly recommend this trip.

Take as many photos as you can for yourself, the temples, surrounding islands and the Nile. The nature there is almost talking!
