The park is teaming with game. Every picture seems to have Kilimanjaro is the background. This is one of my favourite parks.
Saw four out of the big five here. All the more impressive with Mt. Kilimanjaro lurking just over your shoulder. This would be a fine place to come for a time-constrained (e.g., weekend) safari. But it would be a mistake to characterize the whole safari experience by a visit to this park alone.
This was the last of five parks that I saw on a safari and it was the second-least impressive. However, if this is your only chance to see game (at least for now), take it. You will see many of the standard animals, but no rhinos, and the cats can be rare. Large families of elephants can be seen here at the pools. I acutally found watching the vast number of dirt devils to be fascinating - up to a dozen at a time. It's worth a full day or two. Excellent views of Kilimanjaro can be had a few kilometers outside of the park.
Between landing on the dirt airstrip and reaching our Camp, Tortilis, we saw newborn Wildebeests, Thompson gazelle, Cheetah, Zebra, Bat eared Fox, Lion w/a kill, Egyptian geese, Blue Heron, Egret, Elephant, Python and well, you get the picture. This park lets you get so close to the elephants, you can hear them chew and see them blink. No 'off roading' but the roads are good and there is ample opportunity to see the animals up close and personal. Many more species were seen during our stay; way too many to mention. Go for yourself and don't be put off by media scare articles. Ebola is clear across the continent & health screening is being done at every port.
It is good for taking picture with Mt. Kilimanjaro. Many spices you can see such as elephant , zebra, hippo, impala and lion in Amboseli National Park and you can climb the small hill to overlook lake
Think Jurassic Park and the show Wild Kingdom coupled with the awe that only Mother Nature can provide and you will be one fifth of the way there. This is a once in a lifetime experience for some. It won't be for me. I am going back.Make sure you get a guide. It is worth it.This is a very special place. May sane men and women have the intelligence to save it for humanity.JBW
typical Africa plains but with Kilimanjaro in every background you cant be disappointed, low side was during our stay a rare shortage of animals because we were told theye'd followed followed the rains.it did not disappoint our experience
We were here during the time of year that Mt. Kilimanjaro is clearly visible during the day. There is nothing like seeing all the elephants and other animals with that in the distance. The terrain is very varied here, from desert to lush swamp areas. Lots of animals; worth the visit.
You will see it all, in breathtaking volumes and herds. Close up elephants as they walk right next to the car. Lots of safari cars, and lots of dust from the roads. Take a bandana to cover your mouth and nose, but a beautiful place.
We hit it lucky and saw lions crossing the road. Forgot to bring a good camera with zoom lens but didn't need it to great photos since all animals came up close to us or the other way around. Lots of elephant, zebra, gazelles, a few hyena's and of course the lions.
We were spoilt with elephants , hippos, lion, lionesses and Cubs, hyenas, cheetah, Water buffalo, wildebeest , Giraffe, Impala, ostriches, and loads of different birds . There were no Rhino and we saw no leopards but seeing all these , how could we complain
Though we only had one day in Ambisoli, it was definitely worth it from the variety of wildlife and the view of Mt. Kilimanjaro from seemingly everywhere in the park. Seeing calving wildebeests, zebras and gazelles everywhere as well as giraffes, elephants, ostriches and a playful cheetah made for an excellent wildlife viewing experience. The park is well laid out and easy to navigate (signs everywhere). Since it was the dry season, we stopped at the lake and watched the animals drink and graze - it was like a scene out of the Peaceful Kingdom. This is one park to see if your on safari in Kenya.
When visiting the Amboseli National Park, you can never get bored at watching the amazing animals in their natural setting. The park is well protected and also ensures that the tourists don't disturb the animals. Rest assured you will see something different every time you go for a visit. We even had the opportunity to see a cheetah hunting just like the National Geography documentary.
