Dear Milton:For years we have tried to make the Humanitarian Tour, the way you describe it. This coming March 11, 15 - thanks the generosity of several of our wonderful guests, we will be inaugurating the first school who will have solar panels - with several of you present during another Humanitarian Tour.Thank you and May the Lord bless you all. Gus
The best excursion we've had! Gus is a great guy and we loved visiting a remote school and taking school supplies. Several people from our ship took this excursion. We all had fun! Thanks Gus!
My sister, Leigh Ann's review pretty much said it all. I booked this tour on line after reading reviews from Trip Advisor and from Gus's website. Had a bit of a hard time getting the details down, but hang in there! It was worth it! Way less expensive than a similar ship excursion and I am sure way more informative.
My sister and I and our 85 year old parents booked the Humanitarian Tour on 2/8/15 while on a 10 day cruise. We actually docked in Santo Tomas, where Gus himself and several of his assistants met us at the cruise terminal. We had let him know ahead of time that Mom was in a wheelchair but could do a few steps, and they were very helpful in getting her on and off the boat at each stop. It was about a 25 minute boat ride to Livingston (I think about 30 people on the boat) where we stopped at Gus's hotel for a snack and bathroom break, and then split into 2 different tour groups. Our tour took us up Rio Dulce through a gorgeous green canyon and through the mangroves to a school, a community store and a thermal springs. School was not in session (it was a Sunday) but the kids saw us coming and flooded to the school where they all sat very quietly and patiently while we handed out school supplies that we had been asked to bring for donation. They then sang us a song and thanked us for coming. We could tell that Gus is very loved and respected by everyone in the area. I did not realize that the river is their only means of transportation. Roads are a long way up the canyon so they use boats and canoes to get around the river. We saw one man in his dugout canoe who was catching crabs for his dinner! All of the houses and buildings are on stilts. It was fascinating to see how they live. Then it was back to the hotel where we had a delicious typical Guatemalan lunch of freshly caught fish, rice and beans and cabbage salad. We did a walking tour of Livingston and got back in the boat for the return to Santo Tomas, in plenty of time to do some shopping in the cruise terminal. They had the most beautiful handmade colorful textiles and lots of silver and jade jewelry, and of course Guatemalan coffee! This was my favorite port of our entire cruise, and I would very highly recommend Go With Gus to anyone!
My husband and I were on a 7-day cruise and one of the ports we visited was Livingston Guatemala. We looked at many of the tours offered in this town and chose "Go With Gus." What a wonderful experience! Gus was very accommodating, hospitable and knowledgeable - he even brought school supplies for us to hand out to the children along the river. It was a heartwarming and humbling experience. We also stopped at the hot springs for a dip and lunch in town. I highly recommend you book a tour with "Go With Gus!" You will be pleasantly surprised.
I booked the Rio Dulce Canyon tour. I was the only one. Four others were doing a kayaking tour followed by a trip to some waterfalls and lunch. I did my solo tour of Rio Dulce including a fun stop at a local school (even though school was out for the holidays, about 20 students and a teacher were there to meet me). When I returned to Livingstone the other four were just getting back from the kayak portion of their tour. I was asked if I wanted to join them for the rest of their tour. For only an additional $15 I got to hike up to a beautiful waterfall (after a short boat ride), and had fresh local fish for lunch. Informative and friendly the entire time. Also had a few drummers do a couple of songs for us and we got up and danced. Good fun!
Spent a full day along the Rio Dolce with Go with Gus tours on 24 December. Gus and his staff were great. We enjoyed our ride up the ride to discover what life along the river is like for locals. Seeing the kids ride out to our boat in their canoes was a highlight of the trip. A wonderful lunch was included with the tour and we enjoyed delicious Mahi Mahi, fresh and delicious (way better than any fish we had on our cruise ship!!). Should you wish to visit Guatemala "off the beaten path", please book a trip with Go with Gus Tours. T. Fawcett

Dear Sir:We have always tried to do our best when doing a tour, but, sometimes we fail; because of a problem with transportation, the weather or one of our guides falls short on our guests expectations like in your case. We can assure you that all our guides, go thru a series of training in all aspects of tourism to become a Certified Tour Guides like Dary is, but that does not guarantee that in a given day, for any reason they do not deliver.Best regards,Go With Gus
