Go an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset and you won't be disappointed. This isn't an 'amazing' park but there is lots to fine joy in. The lighting is perfect on the lake at these times if day. In the morning there are lots of squirrels, in the evening lot of crackles roosting and bathing in lovely rock pool beside the big lake. Some fine yellow bamboo near the lake

Much smaller, but the Sabanapark Has the same function for the people of San José. You can walk, bike, rollerskate, picknick, play football, baseball, etc.. And the National soccer stadium is in one of the corners of the park.

I have spent so many summer vacations here. I used to come since I was little. Here is were I learned how to swim and were I played baseball for reals for the first time and we started a team. I have played volleyball and tennis here many times. We had many soccer matches and I have fallen so many times from my bike and during all the time I enjoyed the first skate board park ever open in Costa Rica. Great and beautiful park for the whole family. Great basketball games with friends and nice walks too. No money needed and many restaurants around the area. Great stadium and Gym. the Costa Rican Art museum is right next to it and it used to be the airport way before I was born. We need more places like this around the country.

this is an excellent place to run in the morning or to do some sport , you can even visit some part of it at night but at your own risk

It's nice and big, and plenty of room to "recreate," unlike other parks in San Jose. It's unfortunate that the locals treat it like a trash bin. I wouldn't bother visiting as a tourist but it's a place to go for locals who feel claustrophobic.

Take your children, take your grandparents, take a friend...just go. It's a large park that has a beautiful lake in the middle where you can rent paddle boats or simply sit on the bank and picnic a while. People will stroll the paths throughout, walking dogs, playing football (soccer) games on the fields, basketball on the courts, roller blading the rink...all in the beautiful outdoors of San Jose on what once was the landing area for a local airport. On the eastern edge of the park is Museo de Arte Costarricense, a free and charming art museum staged inside their original airport building. On the western side of the park is Estadio Nacional, a stadium for fans to enjoy football and other organized events. Vendors will walk the park selling fresh "green" mango slices spiced and seemingly popular with the locals. Plenty of eateries off the park on all sides to grab something more substantial. Also nearby is a bank for ATM/money exchange.

Lots going on in this park. Walk in or you might miss it. We rented the paddle boats on the lake. Very basic boats but fun. Bring a ball and join the fun.

This place is great for a Sunday as you need some fresh air at least once a week. it is a bit dangerous at night but during the day it is excellent! Totally recommended!

We spent a month in San Jose over Christmas and one of our first visits was to Sabana Park. We walk through the park and around the 'lake'. I was quite surprised at the condition and look of the park. It seemed really unkempt - lots of trash in the water (on the west side of the 'dam') - grass uncut and paths needing attention. There are many beautiful parks in San Jose (for instance the Parque Nacional - exquisite!). The worst sight was the poor ponies - standing under a tree in the hot sun without any grass to graze upon, looking very despondent. We avoided this area afterwards. To its favor I must add that there is an area for sports enthusiasts (on the south side by the pedestrian flyover) - we watched people skateboarding, riding, running, and riding motorcycles (yes, all at the same time) on the running track - very entertaining.

Gorgeous tropical flowers and close to La Sabana Apartotel! We walked from our hotel to the restaurant and park. There was also a lovely church and a Jewish menorah in the park.

Safe and quiet. Beautiful park with a marked walking path. Has a nice pond. The national soccer stadium occupies one side and could get crowded

First of all if you ever wanted to travel to a place and do what locals do or see what locals do, look no further, basically they have aerobics classes on the weekends for free dancing to spanish beats and good music, burning calories and having fun, people of all ages come here, kids rollerblading, families walking their dogs, friends gathered together enjoying a picnic, people playing soccer, is a huge green are in the heart of san jose, they sell snacks and drinks throughout the park and even smooth refreshing coconut water for a couple of dollars, they just cut the top of the coconut and give you a straw and there you go, a nice drink that most people enjoy, they have ice creams and fruits for sale if that is what you want, a good fun and SAFE atmosphere, you can do people watching as well, but most people are actively engaged in their own activities that they won't even notice, a good place to spent with family and friends, free of charge but please clean up after yourself, to keep good places like this one serviceable for generations to come.

This is quite a normal park, nothing really special. I wouldn't really make a trip to see it, but it can be a good walk if you happen to be in the area. Loads of squirrels to see.

Just a few blocks from the city is Parque La Sabana which was a great relief from the city centre congestion, huge stadium in one corner attracted hundreds of football fans on the day I visited. Police on bikes everywhere, great to walk around the large lake and watch the swimmers and the very healthy joggers Places to have a picnic and take the family.

Lovely green space in the middle of busy downtown San Jose to stroll and admire the lake and trees. Picnic areas and paddle boats available. Mounted policia on patrol who posed for pictures for me. Most fun was renting a little Palomino for 3K colones ($6) from a man who spoke no English and turned me loose to ride the park as I pleased with a simple hackamore. Instead of being a plodder the mare was lively, responsive and sure footed.
