One of the many spots offering scuba diving experience in the Andamans, try and be one of the first to enter the water to avoid murky waters.
Firstly, if you do not intend to participate in water sports, snorkeling or sea walk, then you can drop this island from your itinerary. The island does not have a proper beach, there are few shops, but the place stinks, the public toilets are not maintained properly.
This island also known as coral island has a rich history. Guides will be found saying that backside of Rs. 20 Note has the photo of north bay island. Scuba diving, glass bottom boat, sea walk, snorkeling are some activities done here. All the tour agents will bring you at this island for water activities only. Scuba dive will cost you 3500 rupees whereas sea walk costs 3200 rupees. Glass bottom boat cost is Rs. 300 where you will be able to see the corals and marine life under water. Best for those who do not wish to get wet and yet see the corals.
The place is better than Goa and Kerala in terms of beach maintenance. The water is clean and good for scuba diving. Lack of good restaurants and good food hubs disappoint you.
This place is one of the best place to visit if your holidays are restricted to Havelock and Port Blair. This is one of the most busiest location. This place doesn't have a good beaches to take bath. You can always plan for jolly buoy as that's one of the best place for snorkelling, and glass boats.I found this place good for snorkelling/diving/sea walk but it had very poor infrastructure. The diving gears were very dirty, not maintained well because huge influx. It appeared as if people were compelled by the hype created about this location. The trainers and professional were running out of time to explain process and techniques. As far as the diving, very limited aquatic life, very hazy as the footfall is as well very high. None of the corals were alive, and it had quite restricted aquatic life. For the first timer, good, go ahead and do it.There was a very good restaurant which is not listed in this domain..."North bay restaurant". The place had very simple and good food, fish fry was amazing. There isn't adequate amenities to accommodate bathing and changing for the travellers. The washrooms were very dirty and changing rooms were inadequate.Overall I feel it's quite hyped and not one of the greatest sites for snorkelling and diving. Anybody talking about elephanta beach, diving is worse then this one. So given an oppy, this is better than Havelock.Happy diving and holidaying
There are many activities on this island and I was told that it is the best for scuba diving and coral viewing activities (However, I did not go for these activities so I cannot review that). The beach is not really impressive - it is rough and full of stones and dead corals - so not good if you want to enjoy smooth sand. Not really the beach to enjoy a swim. However, you can enjoy a walk around the island full of natural beauty, and visit the lighthouse - if you are not into the water activities. There are long rows of benches/shacks to sit in and many shops to buy nick-knacks from. You may want to carry snacks and water if you don't want to spend more for the same goods (naturally things are expensive as they bring them to the island).
It is an ideal beach for scuba diving. There is no need to do glass boat ride if planning for scuba diving or snorkelling. There is also no need to do snorkelling if doing scuba diving. The charges at jetty point are discounted.
This is really a waste of money. From Abeerdeen jetty u will be charged some 500 Rs. for this waste of time island.Good if u want to see corals only.Beauty of beach was average. Not good for bathing in beach.I do not recommend this.
the island is accessible by glass bottom boats which was a nice experience. scuba, snorkeling and sea walk are the activities available. we had booked sea walk but couldn't do that due to some VIP visit but we did snorkeling which was quite good.this island had several fast food joints and was far better for foodies when compared to ross island.
This is nice place for scuba diving. It will take around 30 to 45 minutes by sea / motor boat from sport complex to reach north bay. If your are scuba lover need to visit this place. they will explain you how to go in water. Dress is also available for scuba from this diving place. There is full time instructor avaiilable and will be with you through out you come out from water.
We were taken to this island to do Under Sea Water walk, which was indeed once in a lifetime experience. The island itself is restricted and only a patch of it is accessible and require one to take a 10Rs ticket to enter. Inside you have various eateries and shacks which provide basic food and has a bunch of shops selling shells and other local artefacts. Various water activities like snorkelling(600Rs per person), scuba diving(Rs 3500) , glass bottom boat ride (Rs 300) etc are done here.Basically they have created small round pockets in the water near the beach where they have a lot of live corals and fishes and they take you into these pockets as part of various activities. The under sea water walk was part of our tour package (costs Rs 3200) and was indeed one unique experience walking on sea bed and touching live corals , feeding beautiful fishes. This island also has the light house which one can see on the back of 20 Indian rupee note.
North Bay Island Best Place in Andaman and Nicobar for Water Activities.its a lovely place to go for a day’s trip..you can do jet skii, speed water boat ride, snorkeling and other such activities at the beautiful North Bay Island.
North Bay is about 20-30 mins boat ride from the Jetty at Port Blair. Most of the island is a private property and is off limits for tourists. you get about half a km stretch of land where the boat operators organize snorkelling, glass bottom boat ride, scuba diving and sea walking. There is no beach as such were you can swim or just bask in the sun. We went for glass bottom boat ride and snorkelling here, it wasn't bad, but compared to Jolly Buoy, this place was nothing. And for Scuba diving from what I know is that Havelock is much better. So Frankly for glass bottom and snorkelling we would rather goto jolly buoy. And for Sea Walk/Scuba diving I would prefer Havelock. So even though this place itself is not bad as such, anything that this place offers can be done better somewhere else in Andaman itself.
If you visit elephenta beach of havelock island, the snorkeling & glass bottom boat in north bay is useless
This is one of the key place for water sports activities, snorkeling, glass bottom boat ride and scuba diving. However, the infrastructure of the place is very poor. There’s no proper waiting or changing room. The toilet is far away and unclean. The staff handling the water sport activities doesn’t seem to be well trained. The gears provided are dirty and looks unhygienic. It is strongly recommended to carry one own snorkelling tube to the islands of Andaman. It also suggested to carry one’s own swimming costume and towel. Scuba diving, which costa around 3000 per pax, should have been more organized. If you are a couple or a family planning to go underwater and want a photo together, please tell the trainers and divers beforehand. Or else once separated it would be impossible to be together again. The scuba package includes underwater photographs, quality of which is not very great. Too much activities in too little time also makes it a clumsy affair to remember.
