There are two museums, one on each side of the street. One is art (paintings, mostly) with many rooms of surprisingly good art. Some traditional Kazakh yurt scenes, some more contemporary - but very good, many woodcuts and other non-paint formats. Here an English-speaking guide provided context and enriched the visit. This is worth the Tenge. Directly across the street is the natural history regional museum. Again, this is a very large place with numerous galleries to showcase their extensive collection. Yes, staff turn lights on as you progress through the rooms, but I find this typical of regional museums in Kazakhstan. The Atyrau Golden Man is here. One of the few that have been discovered. His golden armour shines and he appears to be a fierce batyr (warrior). Both of these are great regional musems and worth the Tenge that supports them.

It's touch and go when it is open as they don't tend to keep to a timetable. Expats get charged more although again there is no tariff. Mainly empty of people and they turn the lights on for you. But it is interesting and should be advertised more infact I can't recall it I don't recall it having a sign outside so you will have to ask.

Brilliant.... Its one of good places to visit in atyrau. It has all history involved with Kazakhstan. But you will need a guide for sure, if you want to understand into it.
