After spending a few hours at the beach waiting for low tide, we finally got around to heading to the rock pools late in the afternoon. There is a path with concrete steps leading to the rock pools, except for the last 10m or os which is sharp rocks. Once you get in the water the water is great, lovely clear blue of varying depths. You can walk all the way around the large rock formations, be warned tho, if you plan on climbing the rocks to jump in the pools you will need shoes. I made the mistake of climbing up, when it came time to jump I couldn't get any purchase from my feet and took ages to feel good enough to jump, but got there in the end. Well worth the visit, make sure you come to the each an hour or so before low tide to get the best out of the trip.
The rock pool is signposted off the road between San Isidro and Pilar. There's a 50 peso admission fee to the area at the helpful guy who guards the gate. The area has a small shop, toilets and a few tables (with table fee). The area is wonderful: a nice beach in front of a shallow rocky area that runs almost dry at low tide. Behind are a few rocky islets and crashing waves that break in the edge of the reef. The pool itself is on your left hand can be reached in two ways. You can follow the concrete path through some jungly area, through a rock arch to the pool. Alternatively strike out over the shallow rocky tidal flats. The pool itself is filled with crystal clear water, the bottom is mostly sandy or rocky (not sharp except at the edge of the pool) and some corals. A wonderful place to swim a few laps, do some snorkeling (or just spot the fish and corals from the surface, it is that clear!) or walk around on the tidal flats. It is beautiful, but not peaceful though. We were the only (non-Filipino) tourists, but definately were not alone. Being a (relatively) tall Dutch guy and blonde girl, we drew lots of attention. Posed in a fee pics and selfies, learned some Tagalog, Visayan and Siargaoan (or whatever the funny sounding language was!) and chatted with the locals. Who all seemed to really enjoy themselves at this place. Watching them and having a chat is part of the fun!It is advised by the guard to keep your belongings in sight. There are no obvious places to leave them, so best to bring as little as you can. Flipflops or water shoes are needed.
it's nothing out of the ordinary that you can find for free all along Siargao beaches. It's a few pools in the reef that are good for a bath during medium and low tides.
This is nice to see for half an hour, but don't pay a tour guide to take you there. Instead hire a motorbike and ride there yourself. If you stop by the restaurant on the road outside of pilar that sells hamburgers for 45 pesos (i forget the name, but there is a big board outside saying 'Hamburgers, 45 pesos') the owner will tell you how to get there. On top of that. his curry is good so try some of that too :)It is quite deep so if you have kids make sure they can swim.Bring some plastic flip flops because you will need them to stop your feet getting cut up by the limestone.
Traveling going there was far since it's on the other side of the island. But it's all worth the wait when you see this place appearing at nearly 5-6 pm in the afternoon.Have a picnic with the family while waiting.Drink coconut on the beach.swim for a while and when it's 5 pm walk there to check the place.
We been there when we were in Siargao Island. We rented a motorbike and went to Pilar town, magpupungko is outside Pilar. It was a very nice place, crystal clear water but the beach is rocky, sharp rocks all over the beach and is not good to swim. My husband and I just stayed a few minutes then went back to GL. We went via Carmen to Dapa because is nice road not like the other way mud and full of holes.
Hired two local boats to take 10 of us out to the rock pool. Had a lot of fun, eating lunch on the beach, then walking out to the pool and jumping in: relaxing and drinking in the warm water. Great mid trip activity. I'd recommend bringing some shoes that can get wet: the climb to the jump rock is very sharp.
this place is superb.... it's a nature made swimming pool, with a rock diving board. and the water there is very nice.
These rock pools are adjacent to the extermely well maintained Pilar Beach. You can either swim around and step over low rocks, or go up on a concrete path through a grotto and step down. The rock gives the water an azure colour: stunning. The beach is clean, as are its toilets (a 50 metre walk from the information kiosk.Entry is P50. They get only 20 visitors a day in March but 200 a day in August and onwards when the surfing season starts.
