I imagine this what Caribbean towns were like before tourism took hold. Small town, boats on the shore, quaint transport waiting by the tender point, some bars, museum , a few shops and stalls, and a pretty church.

Although this is Bequias capital there's not a lot to see in Port Elizabeth.If you need a few bits of shopping then Knights supermarket [ they have two, one on the front and one tucked around the back. The latter is bigger and slightly cheaper ] where they sell almost everything!There's even a hardware store upstairs.Apart from the ferry to St Vincent there's a few stalls selling the normal Caribbean trinkets but not a lot else. There are many taxis available which will take you anywhere on the island. Always barter, that way you get the best price!There are some lovely restaurants overlooking the harbour and whilst we didn't eat in any of them [ we were half board at our hotel ] many come recommended.

Bequia has an airport - it only operates during daylight hours, so you have to make sure all your flights are when you can look out the window of your car you can see the plane without a flashlight and the location of the airport is on the southern end of the island. With that said, most folks make there way to Bequia via St. Vincent via the ferry service and it takes about 1 hour to make the nine mile journey. The ferries and everything else Bequia, ends up in Port Elizabeth. There are just under 5000 folks calling Bequia home at any one time. St. Vincent the Grenadines are sailing islands, meaning this part of the Caribbean lends itself to people that enjoy the sea, and canvas, and fingers crossed that they will make it to the next island. Port Elizabeth has everything you could want for your daily sustenance, shopping, although a bit limited, food stores, wine and spirits, even eggs, real eggs. It has many restaurants, bars, taxes, happy people, crafts, did I say Rum, plenty of home grown rum, Capt. Sparrow...and beer, home grown too. One service station, a bank, the police department/jail, a pharmacy, a small hospital, a number of schools, lots of churches, lots of places to stay. Did I say bars, more than one and lots of places to secure snorkeling, diving, and fishing charters. And there is a nice since of serenity that lingers with any island life, you can only go so far before you have to start swimming.

we only passed through briefly on route to our catamaran trip but what we saw was utterly charming.... very friendly locals and typically caribbean

Worth a visit when on Bequia. Quaint with a selection of shops. Nice for a wander about. Good selection of restaurants and a pleasant walk along the front.

Old world small island Caribbean village. Honestly it could use some clean up. Just clearing away some of the old cars and junk lying about would improve its image. Lots of restaurants and niot a lot else. Can get very noisy with the type of music that carries far until late so we were glad we were staying a little ways away or not much sleep and peace would have been had.

Bequia is a small island which depends on tourist, mainly yachties and cruise passengers for its survival. As a liveaboard yachts person I don't think of myself as a tourist. We like to live within the local economy tending to shop locally and use local tradesmen. In Port Elizabeth we felt that prices were inflate for the short term tourists. The town itself is charming and there are some good reasonable restaurants we particularly like Tommy's.

Small, quaint, easy on the eyes and senses. No resorts, no chain restaurants, no nothing to remind you of home. Perfect! Not a large town...can see it all in an hour or so. Shop in the small boutiques or the roadside stands, eat and drink in the local restaurants/bars, and just chill with the locals and visitors. If you initiate contact with the locals you will find them quite friendly. Just say hello!

What can I say? We liked our day there so much, we'd like to go back and find a cool little place to stay for a week and explore some more! Shopping. Great views. Good food. Nice people. Great street party going late into the night.

This is a little waterfront town where you can still stretch your hammock between 2 coconut trees on the beach in front of the town and take in the sounds of the harbour and the ol talk of taxi men under the almond trees. When inclined to stretch your legs, just continue along past colourful fishing boats pulled up on the beach and pick up the belmont walkway which continues along the waterfront where you can stop in at one or more of several coffee shops, the Gingerbread cafe being my favourite, before continuing along to the Princess Point trail on to Princess Margaret beach. Altogether a wonderful waterfront experience.

The mix of bars and restaurants is just right so you have a good choice if you stay longer than a few days on the island. The fruit and Green Grocers are plenty on Front street and I can highly recommend Blackie who is very friendly and has excellent quality of fruit, veg and also herbs. Doris Fresh Food is the Gourmet Supermarket were you can find almost everything you need. All meat and fish is frozen as it goes bad too quickly in the climate if sold fresh. This is something you need to adapt to but you can get good stuff and feed yourself well.

This is the main shopping area, where a lot of the attractions are (diving, sailing charters, some restaurants, grocery stores), and the ferry.

This place is what we hoped the Caribbean islands would be like. A laid back little town with a perfect little beach a short walk away.

Wonderful island town. Totally laid back where after a couple of days you are known to people and they to you. Lovely pathway along the crystal clear water. An amazing island in its own time zone with lovely beaches. Wish we could have stayed longer and one to return to
