Got dropped off by boat for a couple of hours. Good snorkeling and there was fresh lobster to be had by the locals BBQ'ing it.
We got a glass bottom boat ride to the island from the seven mile beach. Stopped to snorkel on the way, paid $30 each for the ride, but later learned we could've done better than that! Anyway once there the island was really fun! Picked some lobsters from a trap for lunch. They let us hold them for photos and we watched them prepare them for the grill! We then took a quick hike down the trail! I was wishing I had my shoes as it gets a bit rocky but the view from the other side of the island is beautiful! Got back just as our lobsters were done! We paid $25 each and they were delicious!! We brought our own cold drinks along and I didnt see any for sale there! One of our best days in Jamaica!
Go there to hang on the beach or to snorkel or to take a nap. There are no resorts or hotels on this Cay. Boat only. small and fun
We kayaked to Booby Cay from 7 Mile Beach to find the most beautiful local Jamaican people ever... David the fisherman, assisted by his little brother, Grandma Porter with her array of jewellery, sarongs,T shirts and souvenir's. Saw the most amazing fish, ate delicious fresh lobster. If you visit this little piece of paradise please take money and not your own food and drink. The locals rely on the support from holidaymakers.
The lobster was excellent. Having it grilled over the coals intensified the flavor. I highly recommend this. Bring your own drinks, and if you have picky eaters in the family, bring them other food.
We stayed at the RIU in Bloody Bay. We arranged a glass bottom boat tour through a fellow on the beach in front of our resort. It costed $50/couple and included a cruise along seven mile, snorkelling and a fresh lobster with garlic toast. After cruising Seven Mile, we stopped for some snorkelling. The reef was amazing - lots of varieties of fish to be seen and crystal clear water. The water was slightly choppy so be sure to ask for a life jacket if you're not a strong swimmer. The boat we took supplied snorkelling gear - but we brought our own - for sanitary reasons but also because ours ours are good quality. As luck would have it, mine mucked up mid-snorkel so I went back to the boat to ask for one of theirs. Theirs was a cheaply made snorkel that wasn't the greatest as it let water in the top. Despite this hiccup, the snorkelling was great. After snorkelling we stopped at Booby Cay Island. We had time to walk through the shallows to check out the fish. Beautiful. Bring water shoes though. Lots of reef/corral and LOTS of urchins. Better safe than sorry!Soon after our arrival the lobster was ready. The lobster is cooked over an open fire. It was fresh and delicious. Our captain showed us our lobster which was kept alive in a trap just off the beach, before cooking it for us. We enjoyed a cold red strip for $4 each with our lobster. Once we were ready to leave (we could have stayed longer I'm sure but we wanted to head back to our resort), our captain took us back to our resort. Booby Cay is a small island. Very natural and undeveloped. There are some tables to sit at so that diners may eat. No bathrooms. I'm glad we made this excursion a priority due to it's natural, undeveloped experience.
The snorkling is good around the Island and they make lobster lunch a bit more exspensive than on the beach. The Island have beautiful sights and there is a beautiful view on the other side of the Island.
Beautiful island to watch the sunset on. Its a small uninhabited island thats cool to visit and hang out at for a bit.
Visiting Booby Cay wasn't on the top of my list when we planned our Jamaican trip, but it rapidly made its way to the top shortly after we arrived. The thought of visiting such a renowned place was very attractive. I never was on a desert island before! We booked a YaMon Red Stripe Catamaran Cruise for a Island Picnic / Lobster Cruise. My wife and I were the only customer that morning, so they used Jay and the "Ocean King glass bottom boat" to get us there. It was a great ride, and Jay and our driver were fishing, and even caught some delicious fish that they cooked over the fire on the island. The island was relatively busy, and my wife and I went for a walk. I thought the trail would take us all around the island, but it stops half way around. Still, you can see the untouched, other side of the island. There is some nice little seashells there. One of the downside is the trash that is littering this little paradise. It sure could use a cleanup. The lobster lunch was by far the best lobster we ever had! Congrats to the chefs! We took some pictures, and went in the shallow water. Just a quick tip, bring some water shoes if you plan on venturing along the trail, or far in the water. There is a lot of sea urchins in the water! We had a blast, and I highly recommend it.
If you make it out to the island there is a guy out there who will swim out with a spear and bring back a giant lobster, grill it over a camp fire & split it open so you can eat it right there in the sand for $5 US!!!
We took a snorkeling trip that included at trip and lunch out to Booby Cay. Not much there. Small trail for walking and great picture. On other side it's very rocky, but great for pictures. Take some bug spray and sunscreen. good afternoon trip.
Had a good lunch,. Snorkeled but watch out for the large sea urchants!! Walk the path to the other side and take home a conch shell as long as it has had the conch harvested!
Yes, they have allowed full nudity here over the years. I think this could also called Isle of the sting-rays. There are many baby sting-rays in the shallow water surrounding the Cay. Don't go in barefoot because they tend to burrow there way under the sand and leave there spiked tales pointing up. Not much to do there and might not be wise to take your children with you. You can hitch a ride on one of many glass bottom boats to get there.
On our vacation to Sandals Negril, we took a snorkeling trip to the island. The snorkeling was amazing. We even saw a nurse shark under part of the reef. Lots of brilliant colored fish and didn't take an hour to get there. Loved it.
I loved the trip to this island and the food prepared for us! WOW! My friends enjoyed the lobster but since I don't like seafood, the men prepared chicken for me! It was THE BEST I've ever eaten. This island had some beautiful views and a delightful secluded area perfect for the pictures I wanted to take!
