This used to a be street party for locals but has become commercial over the years. We did eat some local street food (nb not included in price of any organised trip you join). There is limbo dancing entertainment for the tourists then the loud music for the street party begins. However no one told us about the 40+ strong steel drum orchestra up the road until it was nearly time to go. What a sound. This was one of the highlights of our trip. A must see.
Yes is touristy , but you're a tourist . Go and see it . It's worth the trip . The music is great , it's not expensive , and it's fun.
There's been a lot of hype regarding Sunday School in Buccoo, but on getting there, it's full of a strange mix of older Tobagonians and weary foreigners (not that I'm ageist but there's no happy mix of ages!). The music's so loud as to be deafening (although they play some good calypso and soca classics) and the dance hall is pitch black making the entire thing just a bit seedy. I really don't see the draw.
Steel pan music, dancing, crowds, street food---seriously-- a quintessential Tobago experience. You pretty much HAVE to go. Drink lots of rum punch, soak up the rum punch with fried fish on coconut bake and dance until the sun comes up.
Even tough its too crowded and too touristy for my usual choices, its a nice activity for sunday nights, all the trees around are decorated with lights, and the steel band is really amazing, still i dont recommend eating there, i went after dinner and i was pleased cause there was a smell of old rancid food oil which was not nice, so make sure you go there o have drinks but dont eat there. It starts about 9 ! Make sure to go around that time because it gets really crowded, it its raining dont worry they put tents.
Amazing local music great steel bands and cheap beer !!! Great food prepared but street vendors must try it well worth a visit just dont drink to much "Rum punch"

Fun fun fun its friendly a real laugh make friends with peole in your hotel we did and went as a group keep an open mind the men love to dance and are good at it.....there aint nothing wrong with a little bump and grind!!!!! All done with respect and fun in mind
Street food vendor, fresh fish, drinks, music and dance will make for a nice evening. You will run into a lot of tourists but also a lot of locals and it's easy to enrich your stay.
The overall 'Sunday School' experience in Buccoo is a must. 8.00 till late every Sunday evening.Bands, street food, crowds, music - a great way to start (end?) the week. And so very Tobago!
Went by taxi for the first time here and atmosphere was vibrant. Steel bands were brilliant and singers very enthusiastic !! Would recommend a visit..a few food stalls so delightful smells....beer not too bad either at 1pound a bottle !!
Fabulous live steel pan bands , music and party till late. Open air dance floor, bar, tourists and locals enjoying and partying alike. It's the only place to be on a Sunday evening.
A great place to go with plenty of music, food being sold on the side of the road, Alcoholic drinks and lots of dancing. Sunday School is every Sunday evening and the 'Locals' party on until the early hours of monday morning. Sunday School is not as you might think it is, no connection to the church but is all about celebrating the independence of Trinidad and Tobago and is known all over the island.
Worth a visit but it can be a long night! Good music, some good food around but don't just go to the first vendor you see, there is a lot on offer! Great rum punches and as always, lovely ice cold Carib beers :)
Not as entertaining as i thought it would be, It was touristy but I felt they could offer so much more. The food was abundant and they had a pan group but that was all there was.
