I go every year with my family to see the peonies...they continue to bloom at different times throughout the summer, so you can stroll around anytime and experience the best of summer in Oshawa.
Beauty, tranquility, and nature are some of the words that come to mind when describing the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens. Situated north-west of the city core, it is an oasis in the city where you can enjoy beautiful sculptures, a tranquil setting, a walking path, and gorgeous peony gardens as well as other types of plants and flowers. Since the Oshawa Creek runs through the park, it provides a beautiful background for weddings and other occasions. Picnic tables are available and there is free parking at Children's arena plus metered parking on some side streets (free after 6pm and on weekends/holidays). Since the creek is shallow, children often enjoy wading and splashing in the summer. The annual Peony Festival is held in June and attracts visitors worldwide. Held in Children's Arena which is right beside part of the gardens, this venue also extends into the gardens itself and showcases talented horticulturalists, artisans, entertainment, food, and an amazing variety of peonies. The Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens is a must-see if in the area or if you want a drive to get away from hectic city life and explore an oasis where you can relax, enjoy a picnic, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
A part of the Oshawa Creek system of parks and bike paths, this is a wonderful botanical gardens with beautiful flower beds, peony gardens, sculptures and plantings. It is a popular place for wedding parties and photos and the site of an annula Peony Festival in June that brings in visitors from around the globe. The Oshawa Garden Club has provided a number of plantings and facilitated the gifting of the peonies in the special garden near the Children's Arena. This is the northern end of an extensive bike path system that will eventually take you to Lakeview Park at Lake Ontario along the creek valley. It is paved and well maintained. There are play areas for the children and the shallow water is suitable for supervised wading. Picnic tables are available and there is free parking available at the arena.
I live very close to this park, and it is a beautiful place to read, walk around, bike, or take children. I love visiting for the Peony Festival and other events or whenever I want to be in nature. The Oshawa Creek runs through the park and has salmon, crayfish and more. Overall, there are beautiful plants and trees, wildlife, and it's a great place to wander.
Was lucky to come to know well in time and to plan a drive to beautiful Oshawa town on June 14, 2014. What a scene and fragrance! Peony show was excellent, a variety of flowers (in hundreds), colors and fragrance ranging from floral to spice. And the icing on the cake was Bonsai show, so many nice bonsai trees. Took memorable pictures with flowers and bonsai trees. Garden is well maintained. A wonderful experience.
This is a beautiful place to go for a walk, take photos, read a book and just sit. Surprisingly pleasant, quiet and peaceful for where it is. The flowers and the way the place is taken care of is top notch.
