Looking back at the past year, a major highlight was the superb, professionally run and very family friendly trip with Andy and Mason near Temagami. The three day trip was at the intermediate level as it included a portage. They shared much knowledge and advice, all the while we were having great fun. Our skills and comfort levels in both canoeing, camping and nature improved greatly. We hope to take another trip with them this year!
My brother and I enjoyed a great day on the Grand river. We put in at Glen Morris and canoed into Paris Ontario. Andy was great shuttling us upstream and putting the canoe into the river for us. He has a great knowledge of the river and was happy to share advise. The service was friendly and professional. Treks in the Wild allowed us to enjoy a terrific day without the lugging and slugging you usually must do on a canoe trip. It was great and so was the fishing.
We did the Hunger Games inspired survival course on August 10, 2013. We had a great time learning different primitive fire making techniques and shelter building. There was section on wild edible plants which was fascinating. I would definitely take another workshop or a trip with this company!
We did the Hunger games survival course on August 10, 2013. It exceeded my expectations in the amount of information that we received in a one day course. I originally registered to learn about primitive fire making. But surprised myself at how interested I was in the edible plants section. Andy's plant knowledge was very impressive. We could not walk four feet without learning about a plant that would give you some benefit. It has peeked my interest so much that I plan on buying some guides on wild edible & medicinal plants. The archery section was also very interesting to me. So much so that I have already looked into finding a local archery club,& plan on buying a couple of bows. In my research, I discovered that the city of Toronto has an archery range at Seton Park. I would encourage more people try the Hunger Games Survival course. I hope that Treks in the Wild creates a Hunger games survival wknd in the back country. I'd be in for sure.
I highly recommend Treks in the Wild and will definitely be booking another trip with them soon. I went on a three day back country canoe trip with Andy and Brenden north east of Sudbury. It was so nice to just be able to relax and know that everything was taken of. The trip was timed perfectly - we got in solid paddling, with enough time to stop to swim, cliff jump and even visit a gorgeous waterfall and lagoon, and always pulled back into our camp site at the perfect time to start winding down for dinner. The meals were fantastic! So fresh and delicious (thanks to Andy's wife who is a nutritionist for planning!). It was so nice to be able to wake up and have coffee and breakfast ready and to know that another great day was in store. The scenery was breath taking and it felt like we had the lakes all to ourselves - we only passed a couple other canoes the entire trip! We saw lots of loons, moose tracks and beaver dams. I'm a city girl who has never been on a canoe trip and can barely pitch a tent - it was so nice to get out of the city and go on a perfectly planned trip where our guides knew exactly where they were going and had everything perfectly timed/planned, yet were still really flexible to adapt to our groups' interests. The equipment was in great shape and the guides were fantastic - they fit right in with our group of four. I couldn't have asked for a better trip and having raving about this one since I got back. They really set the bar high on this trip. Thanks Andy and Brenden!
What a fantastic day on the Grand River with 6 canoes, 1 kayak, 1 Voyager canoe! Excellent equipment, very knowledgeable guide, fantastic canoeing, scenery, bald eagle, even rapids to canoe through! The 13 young kids (and adults) had a super (and very safe) day, even stopped in a little inlet to have lunch on the bank of the river and swim in the water. Highly recommend this day trip with Treks in the Wild...Huge thanks to Andy, our excellent and highly-skilled guide! Looking forward to doing it next year for our 4th time!!
Punctual, experienced guides. Brought us to some great sight seeing spots. Good equipment all in good shape.
My first time in a canoe with my wife who is a novice paddler. I have some experience. We started Moffats creek ended Brant Conservation area. One portage around Penman's dam in Paris. This day trip is about 40km on the water. Treks in the Wild is a great outfitter. They took time to assess our skill level to ensure our safety. They were prompt in their shuttle service at the beginning and end of the day. I plan to use their services again.
If you're considering signing up for one of Treks in the Wild's weekend canoe adventures, hesitate no more! Do it!! Three friends and I joined Andy and Brendan on a three day excursion to Wolf Lake an hour outside of Sudbury. These guides thought of everything! We were introduced to amazing gems including a lost lagoon/waterfall for swimming. They brought all the gear and prepared delicious and nutritious meals. It was a dream of an adventure with amazing value. We'll be back next year, for sure! Thanks again Andy and Treks in the Wild!
We have gone out with Andy and his crew on many occasions and each time we discover something new about the community in which we live! He is passionate about his love for the outdoors and clearly enjoys sharing this with all who experience his trips. Our son has experienced the Hunger Games camp, we have gone snowshoeing, eaten wild edibles, been entertained on many a river/camping expedition all while having fun and feeling very well looked after. Ben said it best when he described scooting down some white water rapids on the Grand River better than any amusement park ride. He named this new waterpark "the Great Canadian Rapids" and we try and visit them every year now. Spend a day, an overnight, a weekend with Treks in the Wild and you will have a newfound appreciation for being active in the natural world!!
Our Guided Kayak trip was amazing. Majority of the paddle was relaxing in a beautiful environment. But there was enough areas of faster water to keep it interesting and challenging, but not too hard for beginners. Our guide Danni was delightful and full of educational information, which I loved. She seemed to enjoy the trip as much as we did. Very unusual for a paid guide who has probably taken this trip hundreds of times. We drove up for Niagara Falls area. Took about 1hr, 15 min. Definitely worth the drive. It was a highlight of our trip. After the trip they recommended a great restaurant there is Paris. So my husband says "now you can tell your friends I took you to Paris for lunch on our 20th anniversary".
In short, Treks is the company you should definitely consider. My experience is limited to canoe rentals. Our group had 29 people with 12 canoes and the trip from Glen Morris to Paris on June 15, 2013. Truth be told, Treks was not the first company I've contacted. Planning a canoe trip with the other company was a terrible experience to say the least. Treks' experience from initial planning to docking canoes however was painless. Highly highly recommended. Thanks Barry and the Treks team. See you again next year.
We loved everything about the experience! The guides were super well trained, knowledgeable and friendly. We felt safe at all times and we really learned a lot.
We had a group of two adults and two children, two of which had never been in a canoe before. Mike and Barry were very accomodating and provide great customer service from start to finish. Barry was incredibly friendly and knowledgable about the local ecosystem and made the trip really special for all four of us. One of our party even got to ride in a kayak which he loved! Food from Nancy's Forks in the Grand was top of the line and she catered to each one of our needs! We will be back!!! :)
This weekend we stopped in to rent a canoe for an impromptu paddle down the Grand River from Paris to almost Brantford. The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgable, plus it was great to be dropped off and picked up at the start and finish of the trip! It was a lovely day, beautiful fall colours and places to stop and enjoy the wildlife. All of the well maintained gear and a clear map (with pointers from one of the staff) were provided for a very reasonable price. A really great way to spend an afternoon in Southwestern Ontario! Thanks Treks in the Wild!
