petrolia discovery

This is a great idea--an open-air museum and perhaps, an indoor museum. We've been to the site on possibly half-a-dozen occasions and have never found anything open. We've walked the outdoor part but, despite the history, there seems to be little interest in advancing historical knowledge. We much prefer the Museum at Oil Springs which has a great video as well as indoor and outdoor displays.

At the edge of Petrolia you will find it's oil rich history. Drive back and take a very informative tour for a small fee. Find out when oil was discovered in Petrolia and how it was at one time a mecca for oil. The tour takes you past some of the original oil rigs and you can see some of the tools and machinery involved in producing this most necessary product. See some of the out buildings and hear how Petrolia became well know throughout the world. The smell of oil is still in the air at this original site but not in this beautiful little town that has wonderful and caring people! It's a good experience and very historical.
