windsor symphony orchestra

We are fortunate as a city to have an orchestra. It brings its talents out to the public and schools in the community. Some fabulous performers.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Chris Hadfield performance and it was enjoyable to listen to him with our fabulons Windsor Symphony orchestra! They are a gifted group and I am going to hear them again in December.

I have enjoyed many performances by this orchestra back when I was attending U of W. I attended again recently, and it saddens me to see they've had to move to a smaller, less expensive venue. Orchestras have had to undergo dramatic changes as budgets and attendance shrinks. A disturbing trend for orchestra musicians is going from a salary-based income to a per service-based income. Subsequently, few musicians can rely on an orchestra as a sole source of income.

The Windsor Symphony orchestra has to be one of Windsor, Ontario, best kept secrets. It has a new Director who seems prepared to lead it into creative and innovation performances. It even offers concerts in the community of Leamington (land of tomatoes!). It is a small orchestra and sometimes that is an advantage. It often incorporates youth performers and that makes it very special. Offering both a pops series and a classical series means there is something for almost everybody and it even performs 'rock' music now and then. Gerat fun, great talent and a joy to watch in action with its new conductor.
