we visit Lunenburg each year and the performers in Glimpses never disappoint. this play is a true delight and a highlight of ever visit. We've recommended the performance to our friends and family and they all agree, it's a must see .... Living history at its best with several humerous twists..
There are not many things to do in Lunenburg in the evening except go to a restaurant or pub (unless the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival is on). This light comedy and historical play that has been going strong for about 7 years is an enjoyable night out. It is the most fun way to learn of Lunenburg's history, as long as you don't believe all of what you hear and see! This community theatre production uses a small space in the Fisheries Museum that has been refurbished with very comfortable theatre seats. It takes about 90 minutes and is fun, entertaining and useful to help young and old alike get a taste of the last 250 years of local events. Some songs and skits change every year with some being added and some removed, but the core remains true to the first season. The players also change, but again here there are a core group of dedicated thespians who love to bring this entertainment to visitors and locals alike. Many residents of Lunenburg make sure that all of their visitors see this play, and we agree.
Anyone who has had the opportunity to experience the presentation of "Glimpses" at the Fisherman's Museum in Lunenburg, NS has to agree they were well entertained. This presentation is a look at the history of the area through story and song. The talent of the Summer Troupe is fabulous, the story line very interesting, the pace of the play perfect and the combination of comedy and drama unique. I have been to Broadway plays/musicals in New York city where I was not as entertained as I was at "Glimpses".
We were very lucky to get seats at the final performance of the year. It is not Broadway, and a lot of the sketches are a bit hoky but it is pure entertainment and it is FREE! It is on every Thursday evening during the season at 7:30. You need to line up early to get a seat. We got there 45 minutes early and were lucky to get seats. Some of the jokes are a bit inside but it is lots of fun. If you find yourself here on Thursday and want to be entertained. Don't miss it.
On our recent visit to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, we had the privilege of attending a performance by The Summer Troupe entitled "Glimpses", a look at the history of this area through scene and song. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to local charities. The performances were very professional, energetic, and fun-loving, engaging the audience completely. What a wonderful way to learn history! If you have the opportunity to take in a performance, you will not be disappointed. But, make sure you arrive early as the theatre fills up by 7 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. show
This is my husband and mine's first time in Lunenburg, NS. Our host at our bed and breakfast mentioned that this show was playing tonight as we thought we would take a walk into town for dinner and attend. This show was a pleasant surprise and my husband and I found ourselves laughing quite a bit. The cast is so charming, energetic and fun! We were surprised that all they requested was a donation. Definately fun for the whole family - and educational about the area :) Loved all the Nova Scotian charm and character. Will definitely come back when we have kids of our own someday - although this show does go until a little after 9 pm it is worth staying up for.
I had the pleasure of seeing this show tonight for the first time and it was an awesome show! The history of Lunenburg, NS performed by song and skit with some comedy thrown in. The troupe did an awesome job with their performance and crowd interaction! A great way to learn some history with some comedy added. It is definitely a MUST SEE show! Get there early to get a seat. Show starts at 7:30pm and is only on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The season ends Sept 11/14. It is held in the theatre on the third floor of the Fisheries Museum. While waiting for the show you can explore the museum or eat at the attached restaurant- The Old Fish Factory. Make it a night out with dinner and entertainment! No fee but they do ask for a donation which is given to a few local charities.
This is the 3rd time I have been to this show. It changes a little each year. We always bring our visitors and so far, they all have enjoyed it. (little kids, teens and adults)I love the skit with the oxen team and I laugh EVERY time. The show is a really great collaboration of local talents. Everything is original.I will be back again with our next group of visitors.
Everybody in my family enjoyed the show. Even my 4 and 6 year old, who sat up front and watched the whole show. My favorite moment is when my son shouts out, "The oxes are talking!" Lots of fun.
The Glimpses show at the Fisheries Museum is a show not to be missed. You will learn the history of the town and area through original song, skits and slides that will have you laughing uncontrollably at the antics and acting of the talented group of performers. If you are in Lunenburg, go to the show and go early to get a seat.
I have seen Glimpses at least 4 or 5 times and each year it is wonderful! 2014 is the best show yet. Each year they add something new, but there are some old favourites as well. Professional, talented, dedicated - and they have fun!
Again this year as with many others this group Glimpses were fantastic. It was great entertainment. They made us feel very welcome-make us laugh-gave us a great piece of history and promoted other areas of tourism. Thanks to a great group of entertainers. John & Donna
I was so glad that I finally got to see the Glimpses Theatre Troupe! I had heard many things about the production & I was so pleased with the result. Better than I could ever imagine! I laughed so hard that my cheeks hurt. The music was great! Only a few shows left so I am taking more people with me next time. I was very entertained plus I learned something new! Loved it!(Entry is by donation)
Thoroughly enjoyed the two hours of local history, humor and music! I would recommend this show to visitors and locals.
We were lucky to get a chance to take in this show while in NS visiting family. Thank you Hank and crew! This show was worth it. We loved the comedy, music, acting and skits, that brought together history, myths, song and stories about Lunenburg. Great for all ages including kids. Get there early to get a seat! Enjoy!
