My friend and I went on the eagle tour in Harrison Mills a week ago while in BC and Brad was our guide. He slowed down when asked so we could get pictures and was also mindful not to disturb the birds. We will do this again if we go back to BC!
Prestige was fantastic! Like other fishing charters in the area, you must leave a message and they will call you back. I had left about 6 different messages and emails with a locals competitor only to receive an email 3 days later to say they were booked! Kim from Prestige called me within 5 hours of my message. She fit us in the following day with Mike the owner to go sturgeon fishing. We opted for sturgeon instead of salmon as we have fished salmon many times before. Sturgeon fishing is a catch and release. My husband and I drove to Chilliwack to the boat landing. There is a $5 park entrance fee per vehicle. Unfortunately we took a wrong turn and we' were late by 30 minutes. Mike our guide was patiently waiting. We brought some food and drinks on board. The boat was a covered speed boat equipped with bench seats, life jackets and all the fishing gear. You need to purchase a freshwater fish licence and a sturgeon fishing licence online prior to arriving and bring it with you. I believe it cost us about $18 per person for the licences. Getting in the boat was actually fairly easy. I have very bad arthritis in both knees and had no problem. There is no washroom on board. Mike knows his stuff. He had all the rods ready prior to our arrival. We caught our first sturgeon within 10 minutes! It took my husband more than 30 minutes to land it! What a fight! The sturgeon was over 7 feet long sand weighed over 100 pounds. We dragged it over to the shore where we hopped out to take pictures . You put your hand inside its mouth to secure it. They have no teeth just cartilage. What a wonderful day! The sun shone, caught 5 more, ate and drank! Mike was very hospitable and friendly. He even extended our tour because we got lost! Nice guy! We did the 4 hour tour. Luckily it was just us as space could be tight and we wouldn't have been allowed to reel in all the catch. The guide will hook it and then hand you the rod. I would imagine you would have to take turns if there were more people. All other lines have to reel in immediately so lines don't cross. Sometimes the sturgeon will jump out of the water right away to release the hook. So have your camera ready!!! I don't think it is suitable for small kids. It takes as lot of strength to reel in this big fish. I could do it for a bit but soon tired. My husband had to take over and use a reel holster. Just when you think you have him, it takes off again! Fun times!!! Would highly recommend Mike at Prestige!!
Kim in the office did a great job. All inquiries were answered promptly and we booked our trip the same day that I started looking. I compared with 5 other companies and went with Prestige for the best trip, we chose a 6 hour trip going for both Salmon and Sturgeon, at the best price. Judging by the other reviews we're gonna have a great time, and I found the negative reviews regarding booking groundless. :) I guess they've improved their service or the other people were just unlucky this happens sometimes. We haven't done the trip yet but I'll write again as soon as we have.
I bought a coupon from social shopper for a fishing trip after seeing so much good comment about them. Unfortunately it was a big mistake! Trying to get through to them is next to impossible. The phone number they gave you is just a recording telling you to leave a message and they'll get back to you ASAP. I called them 5-6 times over a period of 10 days and still no call back. I tried to email them but their email didn't work! I was so frustrated that I complain to social shopper and asked for a refund. Social shopper has been very helpful and promised to look into it. Anyway, I think this is really bad business practice and that's why they have to promote their business thru Social Shoppers because they are loosing customers!!
As a very experienced fisherman, my expectations were high for this trip. All expectations were met or exceeded. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and able to tune his interactions with the guests to their individual needs/wants and abilities. The boat and all gear was top-notch.I would have no problem recommending Prestige to family and friends,
I took 3 of my clients out sturgeon fishing with Mike D at Prestige this past April. Mike worked hard to put us on the fish and we succeeded to school every other boat in the area. There is no better feeling in the world than to drift by other boats while fighting as Mike calls them, hogs. We landed three big ones over 6 feet with the giant measuring 8 feet. My guests landed several average ones too. Once again I am impressed and look forward to our next outing in August, Mike is taking us to "jurassic park" sounds haunted.
This tour was pretty good. We went up river and saw quite a few eagles, both in the trees and on the riverbank feeding. Our boat arrived on time and our tour guide was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Perhaps more signage on the boat as I wasn't sure I was approaching the correct boat.
Bought two trips for my son and he loved them but there were issues. Both times he called and called but had difficulty getting s hold of anyone to schedule his trip. The first time was the most challenging and he almost gave up. I finally had to step in and ask for a refund then there was a response and he was able to set up a time. Once he got there he had a wonderful time and loved every minute of it, so much so I bought another trip for him. Unfortunately, it was the same senario which is sad because when the trip finally took place the team was wonderful and the fishing was the best. Unfortunately, because of the frustration of trying to get a response from the office, I will not buy another trip and my son doesn't want to deal the frustration again either. If you decide to go Prestige, once the trio happens you'll have a great time, but good luck trying to contact the office!
We received this eagle tour as a gift and we really enjoyed it. We both love nature (especially eagles) and are into photography, so it was a perfect fit. Instructions on how to meet the guide were clear, the boat was there waiting for us when we arrived. The boat was clean and perfectly suited to watching eagles in the shallow water of the Harrison River. Mike, our guide, was very knowledgeable and fun to chat with. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for a relaxing couple of hours taking in all that nature has to offer. The number of eagles was amazing!
The entire tour experience was excellent, right from the the booking, to being assisted in disembarking from the boat. The booking assistant (Kim?) was extremely helpful and supportive as we finalized our trip details including cancelling two of the our party of four. The boat operator was not only informative of the area, but made us (me in particular) feel safe on the boat. He was extremely good in providing lots of time and opportunities for photo ops. You can really tell he loves his job for the beauty he was in every day, but also the opportunity to share this environment with people who are fortunate to have him as their guide.A wonderful experience being surrounded by these magnificent birds. A must for any bucket list!
We bought a tour for my dads 81st birthday and we really enjoyed it. We had a great guide that knew the river very well and could spot the birds all over the place. We plan to go again next year!
My husband and I don't fish, but we booked a trip with Mike during eagle-viewing season. We lucked into a weather-perfect day at the end of November 2013. The other couple who was supposed to be on the trip had cancelled, but no problem, said Mike, we'd go out anyway. We had a great tour of the river for a few miles up and back. Mike took care to point out all the eagles (and the good fishing grounds), taking the boat near their favorite hangouts, slowing down or stopping the boat to ensure we didn't worry the birds. The eagles were plentiful -- in the trees, in the skies, and on the gravel flats by the dozens. It was amazing to see so many in one place like that! Mike was able to take us in close to a few spots near the shore to see some eagles up close. And let's not forget the amazing river scenery... wow, being out there isolated from everything and everybody was very special!Having been captain/crew of coastal boat charters ourselves for years, we know what it takes to give people a good experience on the water. Mike was very friendly and very good at what he does! We could tell he loves his job and his boat and lives for the river and the outdoors. The only *tiny* critique I'd have is that it took an unusually long time for somebody to reply to any of my email communications. It's probably best to just use the phone to connect with them.I can't speak to their fishing tours, but I Highly Recommend going out eagle viewing with Prestige Sportfishing!
My company took us out Coho fishing with Mike Duncan at Prestige Sportfishing as a special thank you for our dedication this year. I have fished with a lot of guides around BC before and all I can say is this guy was the most incredible guide I have ever had the pleasure of fishing with. We landed almost 30 coho that day. He knew the spots, was hilarious and a hell of a good time. Cannot wait for our company sturgeon derby with his team in 2014!
My mom and I had a great day out during the eagle viewing season. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the boat was clean and relatively warm for a drizzly November day. Plus, of course, we saw plenty of eagles!
We had our trip planned for peak season and due to new babies and broken arms we had to postpone til late November. Mike worked his tail off and used all his local expertise to put us into some fish. There are subtle sneaky spots that these guides know to go when times are tough. Polite and professional, these guys will teach you proper hook set technique for sturgeon (which is critical if you want to convert bites into caught fish). The boats are clean, new and reliable. The gear provided is top of the line quality too. Once the tide was in our favour the bite was on (nothing for the 1st two hours - be patient, they ARE in there!) hooked battled and landed a 6 foot , fat old sturgeon just before the trip was done. Great memories and good times. Darren
