A bit of a drive to get there, but it's so worth it. We took our two kids, 5 & 9yrs and they loved it too. Maps were easy to follow & the kids loved using them to find where they were and where we were going. Great Tree Houses were a bonus. Will be visiting again.
This free publicly owned park gives enormous scope for a picnic or for exploration. Great for families as the trails are easily followed and especially beautiful in October for the local rhodedendron festival. You can get food and coffee at the restaurant as well with great views of both the ranges and gardens. The road nearby is single lane in places so care is needed. Complete a drive through to the beach settlement of Oakura form Pukeiti- great views.
this is a lovely park the day we visited it was raining but it was still worth seeing. When the Rhododendrons are flowering it must be just beautiful and that would be the best time to visit, although if you want a nice place for a picnic there is plenty of space and lots of trees. The waterwheel is very pretty.
We loved our visit to the Pukeiti Gardens near New Plymouth. The walks are really well thought out, taking you past monster trees and beautiful rhododendrons in flower. While you wander through the garden where rare bushes are being cultivated to help the horticultural world by providing cuttings from rare trees, think on how far sighted this original project was.At the end of our stroll, we visited the Founders Cafe and enjoyed unique pies - kumera, lamb and Rosemary. It was a real treat. Highly recommended.
I recently visited Pukeiti Gardens for the first time since I was a kid. It was so much better than I remember. The rhododendrons were in bloom and it was beautiful. The walks were well kept and new treehouse lookouts are being erected which are cool, even my 7yr old daughter enjoyed the visit. I would highly recommend a visit.
Taranaki has several great gardens/parks this one is the 5 star!!Several great walks - different lengths and degrees of difficulty! Best visited at Rhododendron time.Cafe good too!!
after a twenty minute drive, we were treated to an extremely well maintained garden which offers the visitor a large number of walking and viewing options. All options require a little fitness as they start from about a 30 minute to up to about 2/12 hour walking option. The gardens themselves at a credit to the local council who appear to manage and maintain this local asset
I have heard a lot about the Pukeiti Rhododendron Park and was looking forward to visiting. While I can see that it has been magnificent in it's day the gardens were looking a little untidy and in need of some TLC. I hope that it can be restored to its former glory.
An interesting park near Mt Taranaki. Did the free guided walk with our group. Mobility vehicle available.
It was impressive with some beautiful plants - a bit disappointed that the giant rhodos had finished blooming and the park at the outer edges is a little unkempt but what a major undertaking keeping that massive place under control. All in all a must see
Unfortunately the weather had beaten a lot of the shrubs and the Rhododendrons were a little worse for it. However apleasant walk around the beautiful gardens
magnificent Rhododendrons every where all in there brilliant colours.what a sight they make this is a must visit for garden & flowers lovers of all ages.fantastic place to visit
So good to have this restaurant here. So far away for the city crowds, good food, amazing views over the park, makes this place a must see in all weathers. Well worth the drive - which is glorious in its own right.
We visited the park last week and had a very enjoyable couple of hours. The park is very spread out, but a wonderful staff member took us for a great tour of the gardens in a mini van. I didn't get the drivers name, but he is a credit to the gardens. He provided information that was perfect for our level of knowledge of rhododenrons, and shared his knowledge of other trees and plants willingly. He took photos for us, and stopped whenever we wanted, there was no rush.I don't know how often or when this ride operates, but we were the only visitors there (3 adults), and this ride allowed me to see much more than my limited mobility would have otherwise.I would reccomend this park to anyone interested in gardens, and the best part of all - it was free entry.
Although we visited before the prime flowering time, the largest rhodo's were in spectacular flower in this well established well trailed garden.
