amaze 'n' place

We enjoyed lunch at this great location last week. The meal was so yummy - really delicious, fresh local produce. Lots of fresh herbs and mango in the salad. The kids had a ball in the maze and even fed alpacas. Relaxing, friendly ... highly recommended!

Thanks for the review.I'm happy that you had such a good time.I understand that the cost of things are always a concern and for that reason we try to keep the prices as low as possible. In fact, we have not increased our prices since we opened over 8 years ago!!Unfortunately, to provide such a beautiful and unique maze with all the activities involves a lot of maintenance and materials. Just recently we spent over $6,000 on new gravel. I hope that you understand our aim to provide a unique and enjoyable experience while making some income too.

I'm sorry that you found the food a little pricey as we endeavour to keep the prices as low as possible - we understand the expense of entertaining and feeding a family for the day. I trust you enjoyed the food as it is all fresh and made here - not the cheap junk food you often find at tourist attractions. Our pricing also needs to cover the costs of the set-up and maintenance of the free attractions we provide - alpaca feeding, sand pit and puzzles - which most cafes do not provide and therefor the comparison is a little unbalanced.So, thank you again for thoughtfulness and I hope my explanation was helpful.We hope to see you here again in the future.

Alstonville is a very attractive town well located between Ballina and Lismore on the far north coast of NSW, Australia. It is blessed with a rural scenery very reminiscent of the English countryside. A great place for a relaxing stay that is also close to many interesting tourist areas such as Ballina and Byron Bay.

So glad you enjoyed your time at Amaze 'n' Place. We see so often that it's the family that plays together that has such a wonderful time. Unfortunately, many parents feel a maze is just for kids and don't get to experience and enjoy the fun as well as the wonder of our maze. The food was average. The staff didn't seem to care. It feels like a tourist trap and the sign out the front makes turning out of the driveway dangerous... it's a last timer in my books

Dear Mdjwheatley,I’m really sorry that you had a wasted trip to visit Amaze ‘n’ Place.Our website does have the current opening times but there are many websites that have published information about us that is out of date. We're endeavouring to locate and correct all of them.It's always been our intention to be open every day all year round. However, in this economic climate and with the reduction in tourism it has become economically impossible. The cost of labour, penalty rates and the amount of upkeep means that opening in school terms is not viable. Opening only in the holidays is a better option than closing completely.We hope to be able to expand our opening hours in the future.Again, I am sorry you missed out on visiting us – I’m sure you would have enjoyed your experience.Hopefully you can visit us during the school holidays.Rik & Lisa (owners and designers).

Dear Snakechick,I'm very sorry that your experience at Amaze 'n' Place was not what you expected. I'm surprised that you had difficulty understanding the Seekers Games in the maze. I thought we had made them self-explanatory as they need to be suitable for for everyone, including children. I am very interested to discover what more explanation we need to add.We do provide insect repellent free of charge for those visitors who feel it is necessary and forget to bring their own. We do not always remember to ask all visitors as most come prepared if they are concerned about insects. The repellent is in clear view at the booking counter.You were unfortunate to get caught in a rainstorm whilst in the maze. If it looks like rain most visitors either delay their excursion or take their own umbrella. We also have free ponchos available. Unfortunately, we do not have enough staff to enable us to search to maze for visitors each time there is a shower on the off-chance that they do not have protection. The open structure of our maze is one of its main distinguishing features. This is designed to make it less claustrophobic and more attractive than other mazes. Many find the uniqueness of this design to be one of the things they enjoy about it. It is the only maze in the world grown this way.Although we have tried to provide a unique and interesting experience I am sorry that we have fallen short of your expectations. I'm very disappointed that you didn't find the maze of interest. Looking at it from a distance does not give a decent indication of how impressive it really is. Reading the other reviews on this site and all the positive comments in our visitors' book would have given you a better indication of the experience you and your family have missed out on.To provide free entry to the maze would not be a marketing opportunity as it would ensure that we would lose money. A growing, living maze of this size takes a lot of upkeep - approximately 400 hours a year of pruning, fertilising etc etc. This is apart from the costs of set-up which took over 9,000 trees, a huge investment in infrastructure, (inc. carpark and road-widening), and 9 years work.The maze entry price includes free games to play in the maze and many children and families spend hours with multiple games. We also provide free puzzle play in the cafe and free alpaca feeding every day.The cafe has its own expenses to meet and as it only supplies coffee, cake and light lunches, it cannot support the upkeep of the maze. Do you expect Dreamworld not to charge an entry fee because you can buy food there?Our entry fee is less than a movie ticket, less than a game of ten-pin bowls or a round of golf. If you have a family of five it is even cheaper at less than $6.50 each when you book online.Please understand that our aim is not to rip anybody off; it is to earn an income while providing a unique experience and family enjoyment.

What a great place for kids, and adults too. I ended up running (okay walking) around inside the maze figuring out all the puzzles they give you with the kids. We had a great time. It's great excersise for the memory and you can see the kids figuring out stuff as they work thru each puzzle and work together as well as compete against each other. The food was fairly limited and quite expensive but a nice setting and would absolutely recomend it for somewhere to take the family.
