So easy to drive past on the wya somewhere distant, but worth a short detour. The old farm, the picnic and camp sites, the brooding mountains and the wallabies.

This smallish national park is located between Orange and Forbes. Access to the main walks, camping ground and guts of the park up to Dripping Rock is fine with a 2WD. You will need a 4 WD to travel further into the park and access viewpoints on the rugged escarpment If you enjoy a bit of space, walking on less busy trails with good views, multiple (and close) sightings of eagles and kangaroos, then you will enjoy this park. The wildflowers are said to be awesome in Spring. There is a lovely shaded camping area, hardly used, with clean composting toilets and limited water supply situated just off the main access road between the start of the 2 main walks. This is a good place for winter walking - I think in summer it would be quite hot. There are no water supplies on the tracks. The walks range between 2-6 hours, but several can be combined to make a circuit. The simple map from the tourist office of the 3-4 walking trails is not adequate for navigation. A more detailed, topographical map is recommended for safety. The trails are not always obvious, and signage at junctions is virtually non existent. I travelled onto Forbes to have a look around, and while it is pleasant, there is little of tourist interest, and next time would not bother. If you do travel onto Forbes, it is worth stopping at the site of Ben Halls famous Eugowra gold escort robbery. There is a small off road layby with good explanatory signage.
