I can happily say that our recent camping site at Wee Jasper was one of the best in the country. For value for money, natural beauty, safe swimming, space and freedom, ease of access, amenities and overall enjoyment it was right up there with Big Crystal Creek in QLD, Bitter Springs in NT and Cape Range NP in WA. The best in NSW that I know of.
For couples, Family (young children), Family (Teens), Friends & Sologreat spot for a weekend camp or longer stay or a just a picnicYou need a tent with all your gear or a caravan or camping trailer as there is no shop's so you must make sure you have everything you need.Toilet's and cold shower only, Billy Grace has hot & cold shower'sWee Jasper has only a pub..You only pay for a site if you are camping the ranger comes around & collect fee's per person, per night
This is an excellent series of camping areas in a Valley by a pleasant little river. The reserve is 45 minutes south of Yass. The main camping area (Billy Grace) has hot showers and a playground - the others are more basic but all are clean and pleasant places to camp.
Hi - thanks for your review of Wee Jasper Reserves. We are very glad you liked Billy Grace Reserve and can definitely confirm that Micalong Creek Reserve is an awesome spot in Summer as well - with some of the best swimming holes you'll find anywhere - just follow the track up the creek and keep on going and take your pick! Hope we see you back again soon.
The three Wee Jasper Camping areas are clean, well cared for and situated in lovely settings. If you want a nice over-night trip to a place where it is quiet and relaxing - these are the spots for you.
Trees for shade. Rock pool and mini waterfall for swimming. Brilliant stars at night. Leashed dog friendly.
Thank you for your recent review of Wee Jasper Reserves. We are glad you had a great time and assure you that the rolling program of maintenance on the Reserves is usually well up to speed.Unfortunately for some months we have been awaiting our annual funding that keeps the wheels turning. As a not for profit organisation this is crucial to our survival. We hope you can come back and visit us soon and see some real improvements around the place.Steve and Kate
A fantastic camping reserve with good amenities. Dogs welcome too!Despite being the holidays, it was not crowded. Don't forget to pack the mountain bikes!
We did a day trip here to Micalong creek from Canberra in 2012. We visited and camped the weekend before Easter in 2013. What an absolute beautiful place to camp. There are a few campsites along the reserve. Billy Grace is the first and has the most facilities with Micalong at the end about 5 klm down the graded dirt road. (easily accessible). From Canberra its about an hour and a half if you really take your time. Dog friendly (on leads) was a bonus. Small trout in the creek, but didnt see any larger specimens. If you want a family friendly campsite that does not cost the earth, you cannot go past Wee Jasper Reserves.
Our first ever camping trip and everyone was excited (and a bit nervous). We had heard great things about Wee Jasper from friends. And fortunately Wee Jasper lived up to everything we were told. Can’t believe I am the first one writing a review!Wee Jasper is approx. 4 hours south/west of Sydney with sealed roads all the way. We went in April so the weather was perfect for camping, warm days and cool nights - perfect for fishing, bike riding and hiking by day and toasted marshmallows and stories around the fire by night. The Reserve and its trees were in all their autumn finery. There are a few different campsite options available but as we are novices we decided to stay at one of the more popular spots, Billy Grace Reserve. There is a playground and heaps of space for the kids to ride their bikes. There were electric BBQ’s but we didn’t need them as we used our own fire pit for heating and cooking (check with the website for fire warnings/restrictions).When we arrived it was super easy to find a great spot to camp and everyone was really friendly and helpful, especially the Ranger and his family. One of the incredible things was that there were quite a few campers but because there is so much space you don’t feel crowded or cramped in. There are flushing toilets throughout the reserve and hot water showers too.Wee Jasper is, aside from the toilets/shower, real bush camping, no Big 4’s with bouncy cushions here!! Beautiful birds and creatures everywhere, we even saw a wild wombat foraging around! The Goodradigbee River is situated at the back of the Billy Grace site, we didn’t fish but some of the other campers caught fish and yabbies, someone even said they saw a platypus!! There are hiking trails that we plan to explore on the next trip, of which there will most certainly be one!
