The waterfalls are beautiful, and there are nice swimming holes. It is a great spot for camping with the basic facilities (toilets, shower...). Bring spray for the mossies!!
Located only about 20 km off the main highway, if you have time on your way to or from Townsville / Mission Beach, it's worth the detour to spend some time here. The falls are a beautiful cascading or tiered formation, rushing down a few large, sloped rock formations with moderately high volume flow.According to the sign-posted restricted area notices, access to the river / swimming at the base of the falls is prohibited, but as you see from other travellers' pictures (some as recently as December 2014), this seems to be commonly disregarded. See http://nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/murray-falls/pdf/raa-murray-falls.pdf.
Enjoyed the peace and quiet of Murray Falls in the tropical wet season. The swimming holes were cool and refreshing and entertained our kids for hours.
Murray Falls is a beautiful and impressive waterfall as well as a great swimming spot. It was my favourite out of all the waterfalls I saw in FNQ. When looking up at the waterfall at the lookout, have a look round the bottom pool (more still water than fast flowing) as we saw about 7 very small turtles swimming around, who were about the size of a tea saucer. It's heaps of fun exploring down stream and there are places to lie down and have the fast flowing water rush over you. Love his spot!
nice drive to get to falls but beware of the gravel road large pot holes along the way we went when it was dry would say it would be slippery when wet absolute beautiful place clear crystal waters and easy access to swimming was not overcrowded perhaps because it was such a long drive out there make sure you stop off at the local school and purchase beautiful finger bananas 7 for $2.10 all the money funds the school projects they also had huge jack fruits for $5 & other assorted fruits when available well worth the drive if you want to spend time swimming and pack a picnic lunch would make a nice day outing unfortuately we did have dogs and this is a no go zone for pets ...national park would have beenbetter if more rain as waterfall was not spectacular but due to lack of rain but very beautiful spot
Wonderful location, good roads to get there. Toilet and shower facilities were fine. Natural beauty exceptional. Only drawback was March Flies. Bring your own firewood for an exceptional camping trip.
Natural beauty, lovely scenery and great swimming holes, beautiful falls, toilet and barbeque facilities along with a fresh water shower. Long drive from the main road and no shops near by.
My husband & I are currently on our honeymoon & we spent 2 nights on our trip at Murray Falls Camping Ground. It was fantastic, what a spacious and clean camping ground. Only toilets available and cold water shower, BYO hot shower which is fine. Toilets are flush able not pit toilets & very clean & tidy.Make sure you lock up your precious items however, the locals are always on watch. Only word of advice, otherwise gorgeous site, lovely waterfall and great swimming hole.
Lovely waterfall, falling dramatically from surprisingly high rocks. The falls are an easy walk from a well tended campsite and set in pretty countryside. The path is safe and there are some good viewing points. This is a worthwhile stop.
Nature at its best, this is a beautiful spot to relax for a while.Water is pristine. Not far from the highway.
When you go to Cardwell make sure you visit the beautiful Murray Falls. It is well worth the journey.
love the falls and the board walk around it but to get to the top it is quiet a uphill hike and lots of stars great for camping. but they need to fix up the road a bit to make it better for all cars
Murray Falls, located at the Girrramay National Park, is suitable for a day visit or an extended stay with a camper, tent or caravan as there is plenty of grassed space to set up camp. There are BBQs, Toilets and decent car parking available. Very shaded areas and swimming holes that are safe for kids. A walking track that is of moderate difficulty takes you to the top of the Falls with a spectacular view of the National Park!A short boardwalk from the camping grounds takes you to the base of the falls where there are two viewing platforms, perfect photo opportunities with the waterfall and boulders behind you.Definitely worth taking the time to visit, whether for a whole weekend or just for a couple of hours.
Went after the Cyclone hit. Totally amazing In every way possible. Would happily recommend them to anyone.
After the cyclone the falls where absolutly fantastic the grand kids loved them and so did the adults. There is a camping area there and it wasn't far to walk to reach the falls great photo opportunity.
