We are so glad we stopped off here!!! Such beautiful winery, which is strange because the weather is soo hot and the wine is made of fruit but its not sticky at all!!We left with almost a box of wine, and are about to order more. Thanks to Trudie for the passionate telling of their wine story and helping recommend wines to us.We will definitely be back to this beautiful setting. Try their port. Its delicious. The scenic drive on the way in is also gorgeous!
Do visit this little bit out of the way" winery near Mossman on your trip to Cairns, Port Douglas and Daintree. We spent a pleasant hour, even though it was relatively hot and humid, tasting all their varieties of fruit wines - many award winners. Trudie is very passionate about their winemaking and so knowledgeable about matching each one to various foods and cuisines. She even asked us to on occasion take at least 4 sips of some of these wines! The mango wines (sweet or dry versions) and the lychee will go nicely with Asian foods. We ordered a whole case of their fruit wines to ship to Victoria at very reasonable cost. Good tourist destination for Asian visitors. Highly recommended to include in your Far North Queensland itinerary.
We went there at the recommendation of Andre at the nearby Mai Tai resort (where we were staying), and so glad we did. Regardless of whether you know relatively little about wines or consider yourself bit of an expert, do yourself a favour and check out this awesome place. Most people think of wines as being derived from grapes, but the Shannonvale wines are derived from various tropical fruits. There's just a small fee to sample some 14 different fruit wines and ports, though that fee was waived for us because we placed an order. During the tasting, one of the owners give you very interesting information about each wine, including the best foods to have with each type. We selected a dozen and had them sent home via a post pack.Of course you can buy on-line if your unable to partake in the awesome cellar door experience. By the way, they've won a lot of awards, so the wines are seriously good stuff. It's great to see and support such awesome small family run businesses.
What a wonderful place to visit. Tasting wine that you never even knew existed, all made from tropical fruits. My favourite was the ginger wine, not the same as would be added to whiskey to make a Mac but a delightful fruity light wine. The welcome was friendly and the talk and information given most illuminating.Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
After finding this middle of nowhere winery, we undertook the free tasting, trying the mango, passion fruit, lime and orange wines. We thought we were going to like the sweet wines better. As explained to us, what we really wanted was flavor, not sugar. We fell in love with the dry mango and dry passionfruit. We left with a bottle of passionfruit for the night, and an order form to get some home (they will ship a case/bottles to you for a very reasonable fee). The wine is a lovely drink and the tasting is an eye opener. Very nice
Great winery near Mossman, grows own fruit & makes fruit wines, yummy it is a must do on trip to FNQ Cairns Port Douglas area
We decided to go to the winery as a part of our trike tour, what a lovely drive throughout the rainforest. We tasted all the wines and ports on offer. Fruit wine no it's not sweet, it is very interesting when Tony and Trudie show you all the fruits and explain the flavours, they know there stuff. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the knowledge of the hosts. And of course don't muss the chocolate port.
The winery is set in an amazing location in the rainforest - we did the entire tasting menu and the service was excellent. They spent time explaining the combination of flavours. We ended up buying a dozen bottle or so and can't wait to try them. A thoroughly pleasant and pleasurable hour was spent here - well worthwhile
After reading about this winery in a magazine article and reading reviews on Trip advisor we thought we'd drive up from Kewarra beach to taste for ourselves. Our 3 children kept score of our preferences as we tasted each of the 10 or so wines. The lady showed photos of each fruit used in the wines, explained the taste & discussed how each one could be served and accompanied by certain foods. It was very relaxed & certainly no hard sell. We enjoyed them all and it was quite tricky deciding which to purchase - we bought 7 bottles (circa $20 each) - a mixture of table wines to enjoy during our next few weeks here and a couple of liqueur/port style to take back to UK. If you choose not to purchase any wines the tasting is $10 each but you are bound find at least one you like (if not several!!).
Fabulous product. Fabulous service. We'll worth a visit. Will be ordering more and more and more.....
We chose to do a full wine tasting which costs $10 or is free if you buy a bottle. We did - we bought 6!We were given a sheet of paper to record our thoughts on each wine we tasted which ranged from dry table wines to ports and dessert wines. With each tasting we were given some information on the fruit and food pairing. Most of the fruit is grown on their property. Definitely make a trip to this winery, it's well worth the visit.
What a great idea - using the exotic fruits of the tropics to make wine! And the idea has been well executed with good, varied and evolving product at very reasonable prices, together with an enthusiastic dedication to explaining the wines to visitors. The range of a dozen or so wines not only includes the sweeter liqueur styles that one might expect, but also some very creditable drier style table wines. Erase you preconceived ideas of what table wines should be like and explore the new flavour opportunities provided by tropical fruits. The Jaboticaba red was a winner for me - the fruit naturally has a complexity of flavour that makes of grape-based wines strive hard for. The liqueur or port styles are in some cases quite similar to well known liqueurs, but again with the different suite of aromas and flavours offered by the tropical fruits. Added to that are some very unique ones such as my favourite the Black Sapote. There is a small (and reasonable) charge for tasting if you don't buy any wines, but you're bound to find at least one that you want to take home and enjoy at leisure.
First time, and it was amazing. I haven't been to a winery before, and it was amazing. They have tropical fruit wine, which was a bit different, to wines I normally have but still amazing. Would recommend to all.
Wonderful afternoon spent with lovely couple full of information. Love the wines and enjoyed great conversation and pleasant afternoon . Would recommend to all
Owner operated winery that makes wine from tropical fruits. And as they say, that does not mean the wines and ports are sweet. Bought a bottle of port, award winner with complex tastes. And left my hat. But kindly it was there when my husband went back for it.So nice people too!
