My partner and I drove over an hour from Port Douglas. The drive down to Mareeba itself was picturesque and well worth taking. We both purchased $69 for three sessions (licence included). The carts themselves are A grade and the garage immaculately clean. The family who run the establishment and friendly, organised, attentive and welcoming. If you're slow on the track you are unable to move up to the faster carts. (Like myself) However it is possible if you are faster to move up to 2 star and 3 star carts. A Rotax 300, which goes up to maybe 100km/ph on the small track. You only need a 26 second time to move up to the faster carts. My partner who rarely rides in go karts quickly moved up and rode in a 3 star in this last of four sessions. Two other people who were inexperienced go kart riders also moved up to 3 star whilst we were there. There is an extra charge for each session in the more powerful carts but if you're a keen racer it's worth it. You also get a free game of minigolf with your 3 sessions. Ignore any bad reviews on here. I think the person who wrote them couldn't get over the fact that they were too slow to move up to 2 star carts. If you're a family, there were a number of families who passed through and the kids were able to ride smaller, slower carts. I really liked this place. Well worth a day trip!
I've been to Makotrac now 3 times in the past few months and I have to say it's a fantastic facility. Not being much of a go-karter myself, I was skeptical, especially because in Melbourne we don't have gokart tracks that give you the option to progress to faster karts, so I thought it wouldn't be much different at Makotrac. I'm happy to say I was wrong...now since trying I love it!!!! The team at Makotrac were very helpful and diligent in their treatment of my friends and I, and accommodated us accordingly. After our session we stayed on to have a BBQ at the picnic area the track provides. Awesome fun... Would definitely recommend!!!
Drove up from Cairns whilst on holidays. There are three levels of karts. The person on the phone indicated that we would be able to progress up easily from the basic karts up to the next level when we booked. This is not true once you pay and get put on the track any chance of progressing is basically impossible unless you a,re a competitive driver. The Japanese man who I think is the owner is quiet forthright and not very accommodating. I would go as far as saying that he was a bit belligerent and didn't respond well when I questioned some of his comments, instead he decide to ignore me for the rest of the morning. Not cool customer service mate. You need to remember we are paying you and not the other way around. The timing system was not working and they really didn't give a stuff. There was no offer of extra laps or discount either. It pretty well stuffed up any competitive aspect that my mate and I were looking forward to. No times no comparison, no competition, less fun. On a positive note the basic Karts are pretty good for hire jobs and we still had fun but it should of been a lot better. Disappointed.
