This was tons of fun for me and my husband. Great for families couples and friends of all ages. Take a photo with a snake around your neck with Damien. He gaged the guests and pushed them just far enough. Depending on your comfort level he really makes you comfortable and is obviously passionate about what he does. Very relaxing night full of singing dancing drinking and hanging out with some really party animals. Feed crocks drink tea with kangaroos and have diner with a cockatoo. Something for everyone but the staff really works hard to make sure everyone is happy and safe. A must do for everyone!
Simply an incredible display of local wildlife. The night zoo was a briskly authentic experience where the staff guides you as a group through the exhibits and puts certain animals on display Including some you can touch or pet. I was fascinated by the crocodile exhibit; to be amongst dinosaurs was wild. I asked probably 100 questions about the animals along the way Damien "Dame-O" (one of the zookeepers... Maybe tour guide?) answered every last one of my questions with the same enthusiasm as if he was talking about his children. There's too much cool stuff to list. My favorite part was either the crocodile lunging or the final event of the night where the staff taught us local song and dance. Our tour guide 'Damien' was knowledgeable about everything and particularly well versed and passionate about crocodiles and other reptiles. He told jokes and laughed at mine. Damien made sure every single guest got the most out of every exhibit he was in charge of. He has a giant Python he let anybody hold while answering any question anybody had. At the end of the night he sang songs from his youth as a local... He's far from a gifted singer, which only adds to the atmosphere of fun that dominated the evening.I was not bored for 1 second of the night. I thought it was a very cool, cultural experience that I'll tell all of my friends about back home.
Australians really know how to have a good time. After being greeted by Henry the Cockatoo, you get a beer. Then BBQ whilst enjoying the dulcet tones of an accordian. Afterwards we were taken on a tour of the diverse local nocturnal wildlife. There was music dancing and many laughs. This is an absolute must for anyone that likes party animals.
It was an amazing experience! We had so much fun and learnt some facts about Australian animals. The staff was very friendly and helpful We got to pet different animals: kangaroos, koalas, wombat, etc. This is definatly worth it!!!
the grounds well lite, so nothing scary, loved the night noises from nocturnal animals , attractions all well placed and viewing of animals really good. Staff more than helpful . Thank you for a great 2 hours
We were worried that as it had been raining all day they may cancel our night, but we didn't need to. It was great. Most of the evening was under cover, either inside while we had our tasty BBQ meal, or under canopies. For those parts of our evening where we walked out to see some of the nocturnal animals, we were provided umbrella's and torches. It was quite atmospheric :) The animals were interesting, particularly the crocodiles, which they fed and demonstrated how quickly they could move, and jump!! The evening ended with drinks and some singing and dancing. There was a campfire (also under a canopy) where there were kangeroos roaming which mingled with us while we had tea and cake (referred to as billy tea and damper). It was a lovely experience.
The food and drink was very good and plentiful. The group was a little too large when visiting the animals so it was hard to see what was happening. A large part of the group was non-English speaking which made it hard to hear the English with the other translation going on at the same time. It would be better if the groups could be split to make it easier to hear and see everything. Didn't actually get to feed the animals due to being overcrowded. The music/ dancing at the end was a little hokey.
This zoo was recommended to me by a work peer because I wanted to hold koalas. And it ended up having so much more! We also got to feed kangaroos, hold a snake, and pet a wombat. The staff does a wonderful job of making the night fun!If you do want to hold a koala be prepared to pay extra. We also paid an additional fee to be picked up from our hotel in Cairns. It was worth it!
This is a great night out, very entertaining, meal was nice (except for the steak)patting/interacting with some of the animals was great especially the the black headed python she was really nice to hold
If you are in Cairns, this is a must! Dinner is a 2 course buffet then we headed out around the zoo with our torches. The staff were all amazing & gave interesting talks about each animal. We tried traditional damper & bush tea. Finished off the night with a drink & Aussie bush dance. So much fun!
Fantastic night, great staff, amazing animals. Just go with the flow and you will have a great night. Food was ok just remember you are not there for the food.
This was an absolutely amazing experience! I traveled here with 17 guests from the US and every one of us loved the night zoo. They made it easy for us to book the reservation, especially for a large party. I'm vegetarian and they had a special veggie meal, that was thoughtful and tasty, ready for me with everyone else's food (if your vegan or vegetarian you know what a big deal this can be). All of the employees were very knowledgeable and friendly. They allow you to hold the koala bears and the boa constrictor. Towards the end the kangaroos are all over and ready to be fed which is pretty cool. The night ended with music and dancing. Don't pass this up!
We just came home from a 2-week trip to Melbourne, Cairns, and Brisbane. The Cairns Night Zoo (and the Cairns Tropical Zoo) were our favorite part of the trip! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. We had a smaller group during the night tour (about 30 people), and we got a lot of hands-on time with the animals. We held the koalas (additional fee), fed kangaroos, and pet a wombat. We also watched them feed the crocs and the more brave people in the group held a python. The dinner was decent, and the drinks flowed all night (included in the price - beer, wine, sodas, juice). It was a wonderful experience, and one not to miss. I can't think of enough positive things to say about, so go and see for yourself!
Went to the Cairns Night Zoo last night with our four children (ages 10, 8, 6, 6) upon recommendation from friends. Our children like, but don't love, animals so I wasn't sure how much they would like this. We've also petted koalas and kangaroos a few days ago at Featherdale in Sydney. However, we all had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this experience!! The staff was extremely kind, informative, and passionate about what they do. The dinner food was fine and represented local culture. The zoo tour was fantastic and very informational and interactive. It was disappointing to have to pay an additional $16 per person to hold the koala, especially since we have 4 children so it added up quickly. But, we loved the koala Kaila, and the pictures were great! The dancing at the end was much more fun and interactive than we expected and we loved hearing some of the local Australian songs. Overall, a FANTASTIC night out and one we'll all be talking about for years to come!
From the second you walk in the door, you are greeted by a friendly cockatoo, smiling faces and an open bar. We listened to the talented accordion player whilst we ate our meal and sunk some more beers. The tour itself was very informative and interactive. We were able to pet certain animals, and the small night time tours provide a chance for up close encounters. The staff are always willing to help and they were able to get everyone in the mood for a bit of a dance and sing-along at the end of the evening. The cost included a huge meal (including desert, damper and tea), open bar, the tour itself, and Aussie bush entertainment. I recommend this to anyone at all. A bit of walking around but easy walking tracks. Translators available for Chinese/Japanese visitors also. I don't want to spoil it by giving away too much but I was more than impressed with the night and highly recommend it. We are Cairns locals and finally decided to visit the place. We are very glad we did. Go and check it out!!!
