景点点评
Its a statue made out of marble dug up from Bendigo with a nice big quartz in the hand of George. Apart from Pigeon doings this status has stood the test of times. Many a time seen a young drunken man standing with George on saturday night getting his photo taken with him, with or without clothes on.
This statue is centrally situated, roughly opposite Hotel Shamrock and the mouth of Williamson Street and near the former General Post Office and a statue of retailing entrepreneur Sidney Myer. At one time Lansell, a mining speculator, was the richest man in Australia. Of course he was highly influential in goldfields mining enterprises and he is also remembered as a benefactor of Bendigo. Lansell started out as a candle and soap maker, and the statue's inscription credits him with courage and dogged persistence.
