Moderately priced wine, friendly counter staff and a great place to stopover for lunch. There's a kiddie's playground just next to the café. I like their Rose and Tempranilo (Temp-pra-knee-o).

The Cellar Door Manager Niall Twigger took a group of 19 of us for a tour of the production facilities then we enjoyed a tasting platter of meats, cheeses, olives, grapes and crackers each while Niall presented 5 wines for tasting. The 2014 Riesling, the 2013 Oak Chardonnay, the 2010 Pinot Noir, 2012 Shiraz and the 2012 Cab Sav. All were very nice especially the Pinot. But my favourite on the day was the 2014 Riesling. Niall has an excellent knowledge of the production process and is very fluent in his appreciation of the qualities of each wine we tasted. He cheerfully answered all our questions. Well worth visitng when passing through Mount Barker - it is on the main Albany Highway in the Centre of Town with lots of parking. Going on the level of purchases that were loaded into the bus, our group was throoughly impressed with the quality and pricing of the winers we tasted.

We visited Plantagenet on a Friday in August and had a very enjoyable time. We were welcomed with warmth and professionalism. The wines are very high quality and the tastings were generous.

Just near the info centre on the highway we stopped for a look and taste. The staff were great and explained the process and best drops. Our favourite was the 2012 shiraz that will be its best in twenty years but didn't last a day in our house.Very nice drop and nice tasting reds. They are also known for reislings

The winery is on the main highway and has an excellent selection of well priced wines. Not having the hype of Margaret River the wines are as good, but no eatery. Its well laid out and has friendly, knowledgable staff, and well worth a visit.

Whilst the wines won't blow you away, and nor will the setting on the edge of town, this is a good place to stock up on good value everyday drinking wines. Not really a place to hang around though.

Great award winning wines from the Western Australian Lower Great Southern region. Nice tasting area in Mount Barker with knowledgeable and helpful staff. Worth the stop - worth the taste.

Plantagenet Wines are definitely worth a visit so you can taste their delicious red wines, ranging from very dry Cabernet Sauvignons through to cooler climate reds. If you are a fan of Port then you should also try this. Lovely cellar door sales in a rammed earth building with a very nice grassed and treed picnic area out the front.

Of all the wineries in the Great Southern wine region, this is certainly one over which you would kick yourself if you missed it! Like Howard Park Wines in Denmark, you will be able to taste the same grape varietal being treated in different ways and styles, from easy-drinking to the perfect accompaniment to fine dining. However, prices are more moderate here and the product is consistently good. The rieslings and pinot noirs are "must trys", but all wines here offer excellent value. They also sell their own olive oil here, which is also worth a bottle or two for the rich, smooth flavour. The fact that we bought a case to freight back to Melbourne (including one bottle of olive oil) says much about how good this winery really is!Tip: Certainly look into joining their wine club if you're buying a case at the cellar door. Not only will it mean free freight within Australia but also discounts on some of the bottles of wine.
