Plaza Bolivar is across from the Museum of the Inquisition and the Museo del Oro, centrally located to many tourist attractions. It is a pretty park with luscious vegetation providing shade during the day and in the evening there are often musicians that perform. I passed one evening and enjoyed a dance troupe that performed Colombian dances. It was fun to watch.
Didn't think much of the Walled City/Old Town in Cartagena apart from this square. Was nice to come down here in the afternoon/early evening and watch street performers rehearsing. Very quiet and attractive, not so many hawkers.Check out our Cartagena blog for more tips:https://ednaventures.wordpress.com/2014/11/05/cartagena-de-indias-fire-mud-tv-in-a-bin-bag/
Nice plaza, in front of the museem of gold. It is a place to see under some trees, specially during the Cartagena's hot days.
Having walked around the old town for quite a while this Plaza was a pleasant spot to have a seat in the shade and take in the atmosphere!
No better place to honor Simon Bolivar but also what the Cartagena heritage is about with church, museums, historic buildings, landscaping, and more..
Nice little plaza with four fountains providing background noise. Very sweet man blowing giant bubbles to benefit poor children - will show you how to do it and sell you one of his homemade bubble makers. Also the place where the dancers put on a nightly show which is really good!
This like all plazas in the city are a great place to sit and people watch! Get a fresh squeezed juice, an empanada and grab a bench and enjoy the people watching.
Great place to have a drink/bit to eat and relax. This is th plaza Gabriel Garcia Marquez looked out on when he first arrived here. Other major sites, like the Inquisition museum close by.
This plaza is like an oasis during the day. The wonderful shade trees and lots of benches make visiting this place a real treat. This is one of the few plazas that the locals seem to frequent. There is a great breakfast place on one of the corners and these are hard to find in Cartagena. Stop, relax, and take a break here during your exploration of the "centro" district. But be sure to return during the evening. Often there are some very good entertainers singing and dancing for the evening crowds. They appreciate your tips and really do put on quite a show.
Its like any "Bolivar plaza" in any south America city or town, but this one really gathers the city flavors. Cartagena's natives do spend time there, kids playing, pigeons flying, colorful fruit vendors...Just seat for a while and enjoy the pace...
There are many Plazas in the old walled city of Cartagena, but we like to stop and sit on a bench in the shade at Plaza Bolivar. There are always interesting people, many selling local wares, relaxing in the Plaza. There are often street Performers doing their shows and we always find some Columbian made items to buy
