If you plan to go to Providencia island you have to go there, you can go to the climb and see 360º the 7 color sea, is really magic, besides you can make snorkel where you can find a lot of fish and corals.(we went at noon, so we didn't have to pay anything) luck for us, usually charge around 7 dollars each person. Great place to see another perspective of the Providencia island.
we hired a private boat tour to crab cay during not great weather. during nice weather you could easily kayak to it but there will be more tourist (not like johnny cay san andres). there is a fee but it depends on the weather. so we did not have to pay since it was closed due to rough waters and a little rain.We hired a man named andrew and jon they were great. be aware if rough waters he will give you a fun adventure on a very small boat (mary jane) but well worth it! snorkeling was great dispite the rough waters! my girlfriend is not great at snorkeling but she did a great job making it around the island. there are tons of fish of different colors and all sorts of sizes. andrew will find little caves in the coral where there are different fish like a blow fish etc,if you like snorkeling make sure and go here and ask about other options. i went and saw 3 rays another time
Incredible, amazing place I've ever seen, even better than san andres, love this tiny island seems like a drawing-cartoon island made of, great for snorkeling around the island, most amazing views and pictures taken from the top of the hill , not crowed, no vendors , small but rich in all what a tourist is looking for , don't waste ur time and money getting in a boat trip around the island to get there, just get there straight by boat hiring some guy boat and spend your own time, not rush
Snorkelling in Providencia is a must, and most is the packages includes a visit to this very small island. Once you are there, go early as it gets full of tourists, go to the top and watch the view of the reef barrier, I think it is the best place to see that. If it is too wind the visibility for snorkelling is not good but the water is very blue or green.....maybe both...
Great for a few hours of swimming. Stay away from Betito who is one of the guys who takes you to Crab Cay with his boat - he basically steals money. We payed 100,000 COP for the 4 minute boat ride for 2. Others charge 30,000 COP for 2 people. At Crab Cay Betito´s daughter prepares Ceviche and charges 15,000 a plastic cup. I suggest you don´t eat there and definitely not take the boat ride from Betito.
The tour was led by Nazario, a boatman called by people of the Hotel Sol Caribe Providencia. Arriving in Crab Cay, we can see a sea of an amazing color, spectacular scene of the island and crabs themselves freely strolling through the Cay. Be sure to do this tour, which is very interesting and worth the price charged (35000 pesos in DEC2014).
And be sure to stop at three brothers. Crab Cay is a small bump in the water but good to include on an around the island tour.
Excellent for snorkelling and chilling! You get the best view on Providencia if you climb on top of this tiny island.
The place is perfect, the color of the water, the view, everything. Besides it, we also saw two turtles when we went there =)
I highly recommend kayaking to this small island. Bring snorkeling gear with you and simply explore the amazingly crystal clear water. You will see sea turtles, sting rays, fish, and maybe a small reef shark if you are lucky. It give you the best experience of how beautiful the water actually is there.
This was the highlight of our trip to Crovidencia. We went there twice, by boat and kayak. We got there before 10 am, so we had the Island all to ourselves. Great snorkeling in the turquoise crystal clear waters. Don't forget to take your camera.
Beautiful waters, beautiful views and excellent snorkeling! This is a must see opportunity when in the area.
Swimming on thirth Coral Barrier of the world, is a great feeling, it is like swimming in a cristal, full of colorfull fishes and heaten sun
Crab Cay (or Cayo Cangrejo) is a really beautiful island where the waters are lovely and warm. There is supposedly really good snorkelling there. Unfortunately the guys, who we paid to take us snorkelling there, did not actually take us to the island so I cannot really say how good it is once you set foot there. My wife had been to Providencia before and had raved about how beautiful the waters were. The day before we met this guy called Israel who was showing a family to the Peak. He told us that he had a boat and he would take us for a 2 hour trip around the island and snorkelling around Crab Cay in particular for 50,000 Colombian Pesos each. He collected us from our hotel at 08.30 and then collected another family from a different hotel. His speedboat was called Lucia II and he had another man help him on the trip. However I sensed something was fishy (excuse the pun) when this other man brought a harpoon gun on to the boat.Things started off okay as we set sail around the island, stopping off at some beach for about 20 minutes to have a quick wade in the water. However that was last any of the paying guests came to entering the water. Sometime later whilst out in the surrounding Caribbean Sea, this other man puts on his snorkelling gear and jumped into the water with the harpoon gun. 5 minutes later he returned to the boat having speared some unfortunate blue-coloured fish. Israel, the man who was supposed to be organising this outing, then proceeded to gut the fish in front of us, making a piece of fish meat which he attached to a hook and then used as bait for attracting barracuda. 50 minutes were spent going around Providencia island - in the distance you could see Crab Cay but we didn't stop. The only time we did stop was when we got a bite from a barracuda. Actually they trapped 2 barracudas and put them out of their misery for us to watch. I found the whole episode deeply unpleasant as it was not what I had wanted to see (and definitely did not want to pay for). In all this saga took almost 4 hours and we were returned by boat to our hotel with no one but the fish hunter getting any snorkelling. After protesting we did get a partial refund. You could go on an official snorkelling trip organised by a hotel but this can be very expensive. The good people of Providencia are by and large very helpful and can give you a better deal. Just be careful when you organise your own excursion and question exactly what you are getting for your money - it helps if you speak Spanish but a lot of people here do speak English also. You might want to think twice if you see someone load a harpoon gun on board if all you want to do is have a little look underwater rather than go deep sea fishing...
Crab cay is part of Old Providence Mc Bean Lagoon National Park. It is a nice place, but there you can see the hard impact of tourism, there were no fish at all to see, despite the amazing clear waters there.
