Ramon was outstanding in every way. He was a ton of fun, a great instructor, spoke English perfectly, and spoke Spanish that we could actually understand to help us practice. The tour itself was incredible.. great views, great horses. I cannot recommend highly enough.
Quite simply this has been the best experience I've had in my time here in South America. Ramon is wonderfully friendly, well versed in English (though I preferred trying to communicate in Spanish as much as possible), knowledgeable (great and interesting stories of the area, nature), a great teacher (my 1st time on a horse) and funny! The trail we went on over 3hrs had amazing views...a little bit precarious in sections but the horse i was on was tranquil and clearly well trained (and taken care of). Fantastic experience! Highly recommend!!! (Be warned you may have a sore bum afterwards but worth it!)
Our first horseriding tour with Ramon Luis was during the day, a 1-hour-ride, and we were fascinated. Although we had zero experience, we got along very well - due to the very good instructions. Then we did the night tour - with almost a full moon. So there were not so many stars to be seen, but...... this trip in the moonlight was the most beautiful thing we did in ages. Highly recommendable!
My husband, mother and I spent four wonderful days in Valle del Elqui. The first couple of days were filled with relaxation and touring. Before we left Santiago we found on the Pisco Elqui website an opportunity for horseback riding at night. http://www.piscoelqui.com/index.php/caballo-elqui.html.This grabbed our attention, as the Valle del Elqui is world renown for the clearest skies in the world. This makes star gazing a whole new experience. What better way to see the stars than from horseback and high in the Andes? We contacted Ramón and set up a date for the moonlight ride. We met him in Monte Grande. He speaks very good English and was happy to let us practice Spanish with him.We drove up the road a couple kilometers to the stables where we met our horses, the other two people in our group, and were measured up to fit the saddles. Note to Western and English riders – Chilean saddles are not what you are used to! Saddles here are small with very little padding. After everyone was ready we had a quick ‘driving’ lesson in the corral, off we went on our adventure. The sun had set the hour previous so it was very dark when we hit the trail. Not seeing everything is half the fun, especially when you are riding along a rocky ridge way above the valley floor. After an hour of what one person in our group said was an experience of a lifetime, we stopped in Ramón’s favorite valley, away for city lights. We dismounted and looked up. Everyone in the group collectively gasped at the number of stars that were visible. Here is where the value of Ramón starts to shine. He knows every star and every constellation visible as well as a story to go with each. The stories of the constellations also include tales of how other cultures have similar tales to tell. After two hours of being star struck and laughing with Ramón, we decided to head back. He would have stayed all night if we had asked. The ride back was pleasant and uneventful and we all bonded with our horses a little more. All told, we met at 8pm and headed back to our hotel at about 2am. This was an experience beyond our expectations and if we go back we will do it again.Ramón’s horses were obviously loved and well cared for and very even-tempered. This made it enjoyable for experienced and non-experienced riders alike. So if you are in Valle del Elqui, contact Caballo Elqui for the experience of a life time.
We hesitated to do the horseback riding tour since we have a 5 yr old boy who had not ride on a horse before. After exchanging a few emails wih Ramon, he suggested a one hour tour at 7pm. After a few instructions my son got on the horse and oh no...panicked! ...crying and all. Nevertheless, Ramon was confident (obviously not his first time dealing with such reactions) and calmed down my son and convinced him to stay on the horse. Within a few minutes and some patience we were on our way!! At the end of the one ride our son was sad again....but this time because he did not want the tour to end!!! We all had a blast. Ramon also chose a path that was suitable for our family. He is very knowledgeable and has a lot of patience.A most do activity!!!!
The team was knowledgeable and professional. The hike through the Cachaguaz was tranquil and beautiful.
We took the long trip - 6 hours. Beautiful and peaceful setting! Great ride. Good horses. The lunch provided was good too.
We booked their horseback 2 h outing in the valley it was the best ride I took the horses where safe and the guide spoke perfect english
