We went to Chapelco last spring with my family. We have never skied before and personally I did not had much expectations in succeeding at the sport. My daughters and my husband skied from the first day as if they have been born on skis! It took me a little more time, but it was worth it. I really enjoyed myself and discovered a new sport to practice. Also, I had a wonderful teacher, Karaki, if you can choose her, do it, she is really amazing!
Very good option for skiing in Argentina, speacialy with kids/ teens Nice grounds. Not so much to do unless skiing or snowboarding.
Chapelco was the only place with snow enough to ski so we drove from Villa la Angostura there twice. The Cerro is fun, young, and has a nice view. Unfortunatelly it was overcrowded but it was understandable.
One of the most beautiful places I´ve ever been. Good for ski and snowboard. If you´re a beginner don´t try to reach the base skiing, even if they say it´s easy, Some places to chill out in the base after ski. Have a hot chocolate and delicious churros. When you´re back to San Martin, try one of the regional restaurants with excellent food and very fair prices. Don´t forget the wine!
Having skied in three continents, I'd like to say that the slope at Cerro Chapelco is very good, with three levels of altitude, compatible with skiers and snowboarders and plenty of space. The weak points (and not so bad at all) were the lifts, which need a serious upgrading, the poorly signaled runs. None of this prevented us (my family) from enjoying an exiting week of skiing. The only sore spot was the older staff at the local resort ski rental: bad attitude! the younger fellows took servicing customers to a much higher ground, hence minimizing the negative impact of the older staff that resists evolving in customer care. Chapelco is a must if you really enjoy skiing. Just hit the slopes and enjoy one of the best skiing experiences available in Argentina.
it is a skiing resort of international Standards. For the non skin g folks there is the dog sled ride and jet skis as well as snow walks
In the base of the hill (after the cableway), the tails are longer but after the first slope the tails are not too long, the tracks are in good condition, and are not very difficult. for the lunch you have about 5 spots to eat if i'm not mistaken (it can be more), Manolo and Pradera del puma are a great choice... it's awesome if is not snowing, but always you have something to do in san martin!!
Mid week I got a bit of a shock when I saw the huge numbers of cars in the parking area. We were lucky with a good dump of snow just before we arrived. Chapelco has a good spread of lifts the fastest being the newer six the others are South American slow. If you are into groomers then there is plenty for you, for the off piste hound there are some good runs off the top and around past the pommer skiers left out of the ski area. The tree skiing is a little marginal, but if you look hard enough you will be rewarded.
Very nice area to aky, great care of the kids and as an overall, the best place for skiing that i have visited in Argentina.
You can do nice skiing here, but remember most people do not speek English over here. You do get by but it is difficult. If you want ski lessons, some instructeurs do steak English. The view is really nice and you cannot compair with Europe. Much beter!
The place is amazing, it has the enough pist levels to bet your own challenges. But, every step you take they are trying to make money ...
For a family trip with friends is just a must! Very nice pists and good instalations, different variety of difficulties ( maybe not so much real difficult tracks). The people very nice and helpfull. Strongly recomend.
Chapelco definitely didnt live up to my expectations. Unfortunately, we went there on the opening day of the season. The children's day care centre was not working, so we had to leave our one-year old at the snow school, which is only prepared to receive older children. However, the carers did their best. The lifts could be in better condition, considering the price. The cafeterias offer a cheap menu of fast food for an expensive price, On the other hand, the views are amazing (I think Cerro Bayo has better ones, though!) and the tracks are quite a few. On the whole, it's worth giving it a try and reaching your own conclusions.
good place to ski at a reasonable price. lots of parking areas, family destination, a little bit disorganized at the lifts
Not many different trails, but fewer people than Cerro Catedral, no queues and very fast lifts. Amazing view of the Lanin Volcano. Free parking. You definitely have to go there once.
