Right in the city centre this small bit of ancient history. It is lit up very tastefully at night and is a great place to gather youtr thoughts
Augusta Trayana is the Roman name of Stara Zagora because it is dedicated to the Roman emperor Trayan August! These remains have used to be the arena for the theatrical performances and a lot of others cultural events of the Roman town! The complex consists of oval stone stand, columns, and the scene.A modern colourful lights were mounted on the columns which is on during the nights and can be seen from a long distance!Nowadays, during the warm nights, theatrical performances are held there! As a conclusion I have to tell you that it is not as large as the one in Plovdiv but it is a pleasant place to sit at and imagine what had been happening for 17 centuries and I must mention that it is a quite place!
The place is nice. However it needs a lot of work to be finalized. This is just a step to make a nice performance of this ancient place.
Using the map from the hotel, we parked in a free parking area three blocks away and walked to past the ruins to the museum. We received free passes from the Park Hotel in Stara Zagora and was thrilled to visit. No one spoke English, but we learned so much about the history of the region by reading the English translations posted throughout the museum! There is another antiquities exhibit on the first floor of the museum with artifacts from an ancient street I imagine taken from the ruins down the street across from the library. There is a section on the first floor where children can dress in clothes from that time period and we saw children having fun doing just that. The fourth floor had a special exhibit covering information from the 1900's onwards. It was great and highly recommended if you like reading and learning about history! There is a small sidewalk café directly outside of the museum. Across from the Museum above the tourist information office is an art gallery which is also fun to visit for 2 lev!
The forum of the antique Roman town Augusta Trayana is an archaeological site in the central part of the town of Stara Zagora. The site was found after construction activities in the region of the Court Palace in the town. The antique forum complex is one of the most monumental installations in the Roman town of Augusta Trayana. The founder of the town was Emperor Trayan (98 - 117), where the name of the town comes from. As early as the first decades of its existence, Augusta Trayana was established as an important economical, political, administrative and intellectual center in the Roman province of Thrace. It had a special statute.Nowadays, a tribune for viewers is constructed at the antique forum, and it is used as a scene for various opera, theater, ballet and festival events.Visits are performed only by a preliminary request in the Regional Historical Museum of Stara Zagora.
