it is a really nice place that must be seen...do not hesitate...Hallstatt is so beautiful place that you have to take roughly 3 hours...if you drive to Dachstein West do not miss Gosau - a picturesque village... have a nice day.

A very nice choice to relax your mind. You may sail the lake for the whole day, or just stay in the playground of Hallstatt. You may enjoy the lake view and the ancient town just from the window of the hotel. It's also very great to take a walk in the very early morning to enjoy the silent.

Our best decision was to rent and drove a car from Salzburg to Hallstatt then goes to Dachstein Obertraun. The driving was easy with help of Austrian map, along the road we pass by the hills with lots of wonderful view of natures. There are multiple attraction on the base of Dachstein Obertraun station. Due to limited time, we choose only the one with cable car riding and pass to the Five Fingers viewing platform. After two step of smooth ride of the cable car, then we arrived at 2700 m above the sea level. We walk and hike to a follow the signage of Five finger. We bring our parents and two kids on the tour and luckily all of them survived the height and hike the mountain. We saw an amazing view toward the lake of Hallstatt from above.

felt safe in cable car then walked in my comfy walking shoes to enjoy the rewards of my effort to reach the five fingers & beyond.

Unbelievably beautiful. If you want to enjoy it fully better come on clear weather. Check live webcams and weather forecast.

We spent 2 1/2 days in the Hallstatt Dachsteinhöhlen area and loved it. We stayed in Obertraun which costs much less than staying in Hallstatt itself, and it's much quieter. On our first morning we caught the bus to the Dachsteinhöhlen cable car (bus cost 2 euro per adult). We toured the ice cave and the mammutcave. We preferred the mammutcave your but that's probably because we were the only two people on the tour! Normally the mammutcave tour is only done in German but our guide spoke English and since we were the only 2 people on the tour, we got basically a private tour in English! The ice cave tour is done in English and German. For both tours you need to get a tour group number from the desk where you arrive by cable car. Then you have to hike to the cave sites. The mammutcave is about a 10 minutes walk. The ice cave is about a 20 min hike up some steep inclines. Our second day we spent the morning in the town of Hallstatt & the afternoon was the salt mine tour. It's a hike from the cable car to the mine, about 15 min or so. The mine tour is ok, but not anything special. The town of Hallstatt is beautiful. Every view is a postcard. Take the ferry trip on the lake if you get a chance.

My husband and I did a day trip from Salzburg to Hallstatt village in August 2014. It's a lovely small village that can be covered in 2-3 hours walk. The lake and surrounding mountains are beautiful. There are plenty of good restaurants for a relaxed lunch at lakeside and in the interior part of village.Bus ride from salzburg to hallstatt is also very scenic. On our way back we stopped at lake fuschlsee to walk around the lake and take a few pictures.

A series of three cable cars take you to the top. Definitely check out the views of Hallstatt and Obertraun from the Five-Fingers lookout platform! There are many hiking options at the top, though trail descriptions and signage can be a bit confusing. Plan ahead with water, snacks, and proper clothing.

What a beautiful little village not to be missed. Walking through the village is an unforgettable experience. We parked our car in a car park not far from the entrance to the walking street a parking fee does apply. In summertime you need to book accommodation in advance but do not despair if you miss out, we stayed at the lake next door called Lake Gosau and it is also very beautiful and not far to drive and visit Hallstatt.

One of Austria's best places to visit. The settlement is located on the shores of lake Hallstatt See and the best view of it is fron the lake. If you hire a boat you can have a beautiful experience and the opportunity for your best pictures in Austria
