hinterhaus castle

A fantastic castle ruin on the hills above Spitz. It is a bit of a climb through orchards but definitely worth the effort with lots to explore in the castle including a further climb to the top of the tower. Great views. No fees.

Twice while bicycling from Passau to Vienna, we stopped and made the easy hike up to Ruine Hinterhaus. It is easier to get to (by foot) and better preserved that the more famous Dürnstein castle.

I enjoyed hiking up to this castle with my children - an easy climb. The kids enjoyed exploring the ruins. Great views of the area.

It's just as beautiful when viewing it from the Danube River boat. This medieval castle is in amazing condition. You can see that even from afar. It sits on the ledge of the Jauerling Mountain overlooking the beautiful town of Spitz. Here or from the river, you can see the terraced vineyards throughout the town. You can hike up to the ruins and enjoy the view, or you can admire it from afar. Either way, it's definitely worth a visit.

Hinterhaus Castle (Hinterhaus ruine) can be reached by walking 15 min from Spitz or even by car on a narrow and hidden street. The panoramic view of the Danube from the top is gorgeous. We loved it very much !

Krásný výhled na Dunaj. Stojí to za to. Vstup není omezeny a je na vlastní riziko. Z věže hradu je krásný výhled. Na okolní krajinu kterou lemují vinice v kopcích.
