What a beautiful drive through this fantastic area. Mountains meet the lakes . You choose your activity or just drive through and enjoy the wonderful scenery.,
We visited Caraminico specifically to go walking in the Orfento Valley Nature Reserve. Having visited the Information Office in town we followed the Santa Croce - Scalelle/Ponte di Caraminico walk on the recommedation of the young lady working there. This walk follows a path down into a ravine and then follows alongside the Orfento river. The path down and up out again is quite steep so you would need to be moderately fit; however the walk took about one hour in total. You have to sign in at the Information Office with some form of identification but entry is free and well worth a visit.
This is an extraordinary National Park that you must take the time to visit - amazing vistas, awe inspiring unique natural structure
got to drive around it quite a bit. was an amazing sight to see. would definitely go for a drive around it to see some other small villages as well
We drove from San Valentino to ROCCARASO on the mountain road,at times we look down and could see the tops of the clouds.
Good hiking if you can find the trails and the vistas are beautiful. The distances are not great when searching for a hike since the numbers of roads in the mountains are not many. We appeared to go around the mountains on the same road with a few spurs.
Loved everything, but mostly enjoyed our guides from Abruzzo Passion, active holidays provider in Abruzzo. The views, the flowers, the sparkling fresh air, everything superb.
Brilliant views of the Fara and surrounding towns, mountain goat herders, lovely flowers, and the people were very friendly
For anyone who enjoys walking in the mountains and seeing the lovely alpine flowers Maiella is wonderful
When visiting the Abruzzo do not forget to see the village of Sulmona. Nestled in the valley between the mountains, you can see the remains of the Roman aqueduct which graces the town square. Famous for being the birthplace of Ovid and where the Peligno sugar almond factory can be found. You can spend a few hours wandering around the streets, viewing the churches and seeing all the locally made confectionary, either in the shops or at the Peligno factory( this is the name you will see on all foreign exported sugared almonds) Here they are not just almonds but all sort of confectionary delicacies.Enjoy the market here ( I think this is on a thursday morning) and have a drink at a local cafe.If you visit on Easter Sunday there is a fabulous traditional religious festival. Great Ambience and worth the wait.
