Magnificent cathedral at the top of the hill, with wonderful frescoes and stained glass which we were lucky enough to see before a wedding procession arrived, also beautiful.

A beautiful Church in the middle of medieval magic town. Guelfs and ghibelins .. Petrarca and Dante. This is real Italy

The Duomo of San Donato is an awesome example of Italian Gothic architecture built from 1278 to 1511 on what was believed to be the site of an early Christian Church.. There is a fresco of Mary Magdalene by Piero Della Francesco the initiator of perspective in Italian 15 th century art ( and the artist who painted the fresco cycle of the Legend of the True Cross at the other obligatory stop in Arezzo, the Church on San Francesco) . The stained glass and the chapel are magical in the late afternoon sun.

Perched on top of the hill where the city is located on the site of an early Christian church, and perhaps in the place where once stood the ' acropolis town. Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation is a highlight of the Duomo - so beautiful. The main alter and the ark of San Donato is stunning. A must see in Arezzo. After visiting the church walk up and sit in the beautiful park to rest your weary feet and see the lovely views of the countryside.

It's very dark in the Duomo but this highlights the most beautiful chapel on the left hand side which is lit with candles, this makes the gold on the altar really shine. The carving on the main marble altar is superb and contains holy relics. Well worth a trip.

The immensity of the cathedrals always amazes me. This one had some nice stained glass windows, also. Familiarize yourself with the building and chapels, beforehand, if possible, to appreciate the artistry when you view it.

One of the most stunning Cathedrals I have seen in Italy, with an incredible atmosphere and 500 hundred year old frescoes and paintings that brings tears to your eyes.

this church might be considered wuite simple if you compare it to the ones you'll see in nearby cities as Siena and Firenze, but it is a very well decorated church with beautiful art, and as there is no fee to enter it, becomes a quite cheaper way to fill in your sightseeing time in Arezzo.

We were staying outside the old city and in the early evening set the sat-nav to take us into the centre. Driving in the old city was surprisingly easy, though one tight corner made me feel glad I'd taken out extra insurance on the hire car. There were few other motorists. We parked next to a few cars on the south of the cathedral. Going into it at that time was quite magical. A large group had just come out and were chattering happily outside. There were not too many people inside and most of the light came from candles. All added to a unique experience.

this town was one of our favourites on our medieval italy tour again the cathedral is magnificent but we really enjoyed walking the streets and sitting down by the fountain for lunch as it is a working city and not simply geared to tourisman overnight stay would be sufficient to view all that it has to offer

We visited the Duomo early afternoon and discovered it was closed (I think it closes for about 2 hours between 1-3pm). But we only had to wait 15 minutes before they opened again. Entrance is free. We found it to be very lovely, very ornate with beautiful paintings, one in particular being a 15th century frescoe of Mary Magdalene. It was nice just to sit there for a while looking at the beauty of the place. I would recommend it.

A beautiful church in a historic walled city! Spend a few minutes or an hour exploring this wonderful duomo.

Not sure why the Duomo was closed, but as we had spent a lot of time in San Francisco, it didn't really matter. What was lovely was the area around it. Arezzo is that kind of place. There's a lot to see but you don't have to spend all the time going in and out of buildings - it's just lovely to be there.

Very nice building located in a very nice piazza, this is another of the great building to visit in Arezzo, to admire the church and the art inside
