This is the home where Toscannini was born. It is beautifully kept, has good displays and friendly, knowledgeable staff. It takes about 45 minutes to go thru.
From the outside, it is not very impressive. Once inside, there is a remarkable collection of artifacts relating to Toscannini's career, his relationship to Wagner and Verdi, and of course his ground-breaking association with NBC. But the best part of it is the guide who spoke reasonable English but whose enthusiasm and intimate knowledge of his museum more than made up for his lack of language. It is a very wrothwhile stop even if you are not a passionate fan of classical music or opera.
This museum, in the birthplace of the famous conductor, nicely documents his life and rise to fame. A guide accompanied me and explained many details. They had a video of Toscanini conducting the NBC orchestra, with the music filling the space to provide a perfect background. Avoiding excessive glorification, the commentary mentioned that the praise heaped upon him grew to be fairly extreme.A short but worthwhile activity for classical music lovers and those interested in the transplantation of Italian culture to the US.
A remarkably substantive collection of musical artifacts of the life and times of Arturo Toscanini. Enthusiasts failiar with Toscanini's musical career in the United States and the UK will find much useful information and memorabilia stemming from his Italian operatic career. Our guide, who barely spoke English, was nevertheless proved willing, enthusiastic and ultimately, vividly communicative. A very worthwhile hour that genuinely enriched our visit to Parma.
Since Toscanini didn't live here long, the house is not the main attraction, but it is full of photos, information, and videos about the man. We had an excellent guide through the museum, and his enthusiasm added a lot to our visit.
Visited the 'Arturo Toscanini' Museum today, paid a reduced fee as we were both students of 1 euro. The staff there were friendly and one guy showed us each and every room, mentioning everything within the room and providing some useful background in Italian about the life of Arturo Toscanini. He was friendly and informative. Well worth a visit if you have a spare hour in Parma.
This is an excellent museum to visit. The staff was very friendly and although their English was, well, non-existant, we really enjoyed the displays as well as the DVD at the end of the tour through the different rooms. Definitely a must-visit!
This is the birth home of Arturo Toscanini, native son of Parma and perhaps the greatest maestro of all time. It is filled with artifacts and memorabilia related to the maestro, and classic recordings of his music are often played. Admirers of Toscanini will not be disappointed.
Toscanini was born in this house and stayed one year.Later his grand daughter bought the house, and filled it with furniture, clothes, pictures, music sheets, and films about him conducting worldwide.I was very impressed by the quality of everything shown, and specially by some rare recordings of concerts or rehearsals.Toscanini was famous worldwide, and he is loved in USA. he ended his life in a house in Riverdale/Bronx NYC.
