Very interesting gallery with the norwegian painter Kåre Tveters permanent exhibition in one part. Other exhibitions changes after some weeks, a small multimedia film shows in the film room. Coffee or drinks. Free entrance to the art center, with exhibitions of handcraft and exhibition to Longyearbyen foto club.

This is one of the northern-most studio/gallery. A small cozy gallery next to the Arts and Crafts Centre (Longyearbyen Kunst Handverksenter), the traveller could easily miss the Galleri Svalbard unless you look out for it. One could either book a taxi or walk there from the town centre along vei 100 Drammensveien that takes about 20 minutes. There is a directional signboard at the road junction of vei 106 and vei 100. Galleri Svalbard brings together artists that are inspired and excited to present the wildlife, nature and aurora lights of Svalbard, particularly those by Kare Tveter. The gallery also has a small art café. The reception/curator was friendly and passionate to give an intense overview of Svalbard and art. I guess they love Svalbard even though this place is so northern-most and frigid cold during winter. The Galleri Svalbard is a worthwhile place of visit.

Nice and cosy with some great artwork of the area. I just wish I had had some more money to take some of the artwork home.

Paintings, drawings, maps and other information on Svalbard. The museum curator loves to give a little tour and is very good at it.

Longyearbyren is a very small community so we didn't know what to expect when one of our tour stops was the Galleri Svalbard. Arctic art, historical photos and a fabulous place to buy from local artist. It's one of the places that asks you to take off your shoes but they have shoes for you or hospital type booties to put over your shoes,
