This church is situated on the unique historical square in Bardejov. I recommended to visit the tower from where you can enjoy beautiful whole city view.
Nice place, not overcrowded with tasty food and warm architekture like in Portugal - pink color of buildings! :) I was relaxing there with friends and enyoing great weather. I am advertising Slovakia and this city as its calm and with friendly people living there. Good local beer at garden in the old town restaurant and walking around the old castle walls are entertaining for people who love to relax.
As other reviewers say, town centre, church and town hall are rather impressive, I was surprised how quiet and calm it was in the middle of autumn. One can have a short walk, have a coffee, snack or lunch, visit the church (you have to pay 1,5E to get in), town hall museum or visitor centre and see massive one and half meter tall church bells. Public toilets is literally round the corner as well. What needs to be mentioned is small spa town called Bardejovske Kupele situated 4 km from Bardejov. We did not try the spa and hot springs, however we visited “Skanzen”, which is group of traditional wooden houses/cottages that reflect and show how people used to live in this area some one hundred years ago – see pictures. One should not miss traditional biscuits called “Lazenske oplatky” when visiting. There is also a small museum next to The Skanzen, however did not visit and therefore can’t comment on that. Moreover, Bardejov region is famous for old wooden churches that are spread all over the area (you need a car to reach them, however 2 churches can be seen in Skanzen), it is more than 40 of them in total and few have been even put on UNESCO list. Map with churches location is available at visitor centre in Bardejov for free.Put it all together and you have a great day.
very beautiful and magic place, we love wiew from church tower - you should go up, if you want perfect photos
This is one of the most beautiful gothic churches in Slovakia (Central Europe). Good to have a guide to tell you stories about the artefacts, altars and architecture.
Bardejov was a unique stop, in our memories. We enjoyed the quiet square by having a cappuccino at one of the cafe's that has seating on the perimeter of the square. Unfortunately, we arrived just as the entrance to St Egidius Church closed (4pm at that time of year), so we were unable to climb the the viewpoint. That being said, it may have been less busy at that time due to that fact and we had the square to ourselves. For that reason, I would recommend arriving at the end of the day (although make sure that you check the opening times for the church before arriving).
Brilliant! Very, very interesting place..No wonder why it was put on the UNESCO list. Slovensko is a wonderful country!
I recomend to visit this beautiful little town on the northeast of the Slovak Republik. You must see the historical square which is writen in the Unesco list and also Basilica of the St. Egidius and Town hall. After visiting city you may take a rest in Bardejov Spa, 6 km far from Bardejov, try the hot springs or swim in the pool. All around is very nice nature and clean air. I also recomend to taste local specialties, for example gnocchi with brindza, or potato pancakes...very good and to drink "slivovica", which is 40% alcohol made from plums. Only 90 km from Bardejov are the High Tatras, highest mountains in Slovakia with an alpine character.
very, very interesting place! Interesting old city center, old, houses, remainings of the city walls. Monumental cathedral of St. Egid. If you like Slovakia this city is the must! Close to the city there is a settlement Bardejovske Kupele with very bath, famousfor the long time!
Amazing gothic basilica minor. You will see altars with wings, which are closed during some period (do not remember with one) of the year.
This is the main attraction on the old city square. The church is beautiful, with at least seven different altars. The organ has an outstanding sound. Go to a concert if you can.
I am giving 5 points because the church is gorgeous but I do not think you should pay to get in to a church. Otherwise it is a unique building, magnificent. I would definitely recommend going to mass there.
bardejov is a magical town a unesco sight and well worth the visit very charming and the church is beautiful inside and out
First of all, the setting is divine! A medieval church in the middle of a cobblestone square, within walled city that has been lovingly restored. Delightful village! We paid a few euro for privilege to climb the stairs to top ... while narrow and a LOT of them, well worth the trip. The view is incredible. Almost made me forget about the creepy flying insects that swarmed you. Some nice shopping possibilities here too.
This medieval square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is so big and clean and open, and the best view of it and the surrounding meadows, mountains, and buildings is from atop the bell tower of St. Egidius Basilica. It is so unspoiled and non-commercial. You can battle the tourists to see the red-tiled roofs of Firenze, but this is a lot more peaceful.
