Excellent beach. Water is safe and clean despite being so close to the ferry terminal. Great views to England and during the summer months you might even have the chance to see a Channel Swimmer arrive.
lots of good eating and drinking venues .clean sand great views .plenty to do as a family or couple.nice add on to a weekend away
We've enjoyed a walk at the beach of Calais by the port in January . It was very cold, windy but great :) Lovely relaxing time
Where do you begin ? Beautiful golden sands ,miles of sands , wide spaciousVery clean and very safe ,lots of lifeguards . Plenty of restaurants ,toiletsAnd the lovely ice cream vans . Beach is very wide and never appears crowded. And wonderful views of All the ferries coming in and out .
Go for a walk on the beach or just park on the side when the weather is cold and eat your sandwiches. A nice little stop.
Calais beach is along the main promenade. One thing I did notice is that it is very clean in that there was no litter left about. It's nice to sit & watch the ferry coming into the port. The beach at weekends can get very full ,not just of tourists but the locals who have a family day out. Some nice little free play areas for children just off the beach area.little shops and eating places that range from snacks to full meals. Good parking but again can get very busy and full. There is also a specific car park for camper vans and motor homes. The prom is quite modern and new,a very pleasant walk indeed and disabled friendly as it is very flat with smooth paving. I've visited the beach in all seasons from a hot sunny day through to a cold bleak winter day.If you simply appreciate open air, romantic walk , I recommend an evening stroll.
If you enjoy ferry-watching this is a good place to be. Regular Tai Chi classes also take place here and are good to join in and to watch. There are wide open spaces and a long esplanade offering views along the coast. Some of the facilities are a little run down or old fashioned but there is enough variety and interest with murals, harbour walls, seafront, catering establishments of various kinds and the inevitable joggers, dog-walkers fitness fanatics and families to create interest and offer something for most people. This is not the classiest of resorts and is a busy working port so all considered it has a pretty good beach area and a lively, intriguing town a short distance away. Worth a visit if you like beach activities and being by the sea. A good youth hostel with many modern facilities is just a couple of streets back from the beach as are supermarkets, smaller shops and the harbour restaurants.
It was not hot, it was not cold - just beautiful colors you wanted to catch in a picture. Some ships were leaving the shore for another country, some old couples were walking on the beach. There was nothing special, but I did like it.
Lovely sandy beach, with stones and shells close to the sea. It's a lovely place to sit and watch the boats coming and going from the harbour. Obviously good weather helps to enjoy the day.It is close to the city centre and has plenty of parking
Personally I cant stand Calais town, to many day trips in the past. Even with school etc.The beach however beautiful, how can such a bland town like Calais have such a beautiful beach. If you love sandy beaches this has to rank up there with one of the best. Watch though as it does tend to get packed during the summer months.
Lovely sand here and you can watch the ferries going in and out. Lovely little beach huts to look at also. Worth a visit!!
Huge empty beach (October 2014) - good for walking off a superb lunch. Great views, peaceful if bracing
