The small town adjacent to the versailles is good to visit. Its nice to stroll around away from the crowded areas and see the local culture.
Every time I visit this cute town, I feel refreshed. it seems that the time has kind of stopped when you arrive from Paris. The pace is not as fast and you see old ladies going to the covered farmer's market. The quality of the fruit, cheese or pastries is excellent and cheaper than in Paris for the same quality.
This lovely town is within walking distance from the Versailles Palace Museum and so if you are visiting the museum, you are highly recommended to dropby for a walk-about to fully immerse into the local culture and lifestyle of the people! There are many shops around this area, built and arranged neatly in rows, along the roads and lanes. These shops sell a wide variety of merchandise and items, ranging from fashion, to shoes, furniture and antique, stationery and books, toys, pharmacy, mini supermarket, florist, cafes, restaurants, chocolates, confectionery and pastries etc. Many of these shops have been there for a long time (from their design and decorations etc) and quite authentic and vintage. So you must be prepared to walk so as to fully explore the town. Along your way, you will see interesting statute and churches as well.On the other side of the town, there are also local market stalls selling fresh produce, such as fruits and vegetables, meat, bread and other food stuffs. These stalls are operated within a rectangular long one-storey building structure and is air-conditioned. So you don't have to worry about shopping for groceries under the hot sun in summer. There are a few of such building structures here. And in front of these buildings (on weekends), there is also a flea market (open air market), where operators will setup their makeshift stalls here selling a wide variety of goods as well, such as fashion, shoes, hats, cosmetics, perfumes, sourvenirs, arts and crafts, handbags etc. There will also be a big crowd of visitors and people visiting these stores to have a good bargain of these shopping goods. We were there on a Saturday morning and happened to see the flea market! We were also lucky to be able to see an open-air market stall, selling fresh and potted flowers and plants there as well at very cheap prices. We were told by our guide that they only operate on weekends. Its a very nice and worthwhile place to visit! Highly recommended!
Interesting town with nice independent shops. Particularely liked the antique shops and the pretty lanes.
The markets, brocante all excellent. Hire a bike and take a camera.Try and spent two nights, it's worth it.
Vale a pena conhecer e desfrutar Versaille.
