Gained cathedral status after Pope John Paul II tour in 1997- Location, city centerSHORT REVIEW: It seems that all roads leading to Šiauliai point directly towards this cathedral's 70-meter-high tower. Wars, fires and storms constantly devastated the cathedral, however after each restoration it appeared almost unchanged from the early XVII century - plastered in white, with a high tower and red tile roof. The renaissance-style building in the ambience of trees has many elements typical of medieval construction. It is not just so that famous Lithuanian writer Motiejus Valančius called it "the most marvelous in Žemaičiai land", it is not just so that words like "splendid architecture" occurred in the laconic visitation acts of the XIX century. Forms of renaissance and mannerism as well as defensive elements are masterfully interlaced with each other in this building. Local traditions are perfectly combined with the experience of Central and Northern European countries. A metal cross commemorates a wooden chapel that once stood in this place. The southern part of the cathedral is decorated with the oldest sundial in Lithuania - the only clock of its kind showing the precise local time.DO I WILL RETURN?Maybe not, one visit is enough.

The church is Lithuania’s most prominent example of renaissance-mannerist architecture.Some historical accounts consider this one of the oldest sundials in Lithuania, dating it to around 1625 or shortly after. Most likely, however, it was installed much later, after a mechanical clock in the tower was destroyed by fire in 1880.

The Siauliai Cathedral is a wonderful place to visit even if you just pass it by. It is a church with long and interesting history. The cathedral is surrounded by fence that has some fragments of the defense castle and on the side of this cathedral you can see a sundial. It is located in the Siauliai city center so by stopping to visit this place you can also see some sights in the city center itself.

Храм Святых Апостолов Петра и Павла располагается в месте, где когда-то зародился город. Высота главной башни, которая видна из любой точки города, составляет 70 метров. На одной из сторон здания установлены одни из старейших в Литве солнечных часов. Собор много раз восстанавливался после пожаров и разрушений во время военных конфликтов. Он является не только культовым сооружением, но и культурно-просветительным центром - здесь часто проводятся различные мероприятия, фестивали и концерты, работает несколько хоров. В 1997 году, по решению Папы Иоанна Павла II, храм стал кафедральным собором.

Этот храм вы никогда не пропустите, все дороги в Шяуляе ведут к нему:) Внутри простенько, светло и спокойно. Доброе место с хорошей атмосферой. От храма можно прогуляться к озеру до известной металлической лисы, так же вокруг озера есть "экологическая тропа", и можно прямо из центра города выбраться на природу.

Храм строился в очень правильном месте. Если ехать со стороны Риги, то его видишь задолго до самого месторасположения. Внутри храм просто великолепный! Очень светлое место!

Пожалуй главная достопримечательность в Шяуляе, не считая металической лисы :] Были зимой, храм красивый, вокруг парковая зона. Фотагрофировать внутри можно, главное без вспышки.
