Ham House is an interesting house situated in Richmond Park, with the River Thames nearby. Our guide took us on a fascinating tour of the house, explaining its history and the interesting family who occupied it during the Stuart period. It was given by King Charles1 to his best friend, and when he died, because he had no sons, his elder daughter was allowed to inherit, which was previously unheard of. She was a charismatic lady because she even managed to hang on to Ham House, by befriending Oliver Cromwell, during the Civil War There are portraits of these people as well as many other valuable paintings on display

Stunning house is a nice setting by the Thames. Had a house tour which was interesting but I would like to again when fully open. Check before you go. Very nice gardens and super cafe. You can walk to Richmond along the river, about a mile and half.

I have been a member of National Trust for few months and been meaning to go to Ham House and Garden but never managed until today, and I am very happy that I have finally made it. The house it self is a treasure of extravagant furnature, art and textiles. Unfortunately not all the rooms were open as the official opening date is on the 13th of March, the guided tour was amazing explained about the history of the house and the restaurations, the painting were amazing the kitchen garden, the bath, the down stairs rooms all fantastic, the garden is beautiful but I can imagine that it will amazing by spring time. The orangery coffee is lovely indoors and outdoors and the food is of a high quality, the location is amazing by the river I would strongly recommend this place there are activities coming up for Easter for families I will defenately visit this charming place over and over again.

We've been meaning to get to Ham House for some years and today we finally managed it. Unfortunately the house is not fully open at the moment, but we happily joined a guided tour of several rooms. The house is very interesting and quite opulent. The artwork! Many fine portraits as well as pieces that have recently been restored at unbelievable expense. The gardens are not extensive but very attractive, even in winter. The formal areas are beautiful, ordered wonders and the 'wilderness' section makes for a very pleasant stroll. We found the cafe had a higher quality of food than many other NT properties - and happily for us today, three of the four hot menu choices were vegetarian. Colour us happy! We'll be returning in spring or summer to do another tour of the complete house and to see the gardens in their full splendour.

You can walk along the riverside from Richmond to Ham House which is delightful. The hose has many interesting main rooms and intriguing rooms below stairs, such as the Queen's Bathroom often there are baking demonstrations when you can taste the outcome of historic recipes and beer sampling in the cellar. The National Trust Shop offers plenty of tempting wares and there is a second hand bookshop. You can take some refreshments in the small cafe or sit on the terrace admiring the garden. All in all, a very pleasant day out.

As I love history, this place is worth a visit. Walk along the Thames from Richmond to Ham House. Take time to devour the history about the Family, Ham House itself and walk in the beautiful manicured gardens. A joy for an outing.

Set on the river Thames this place makes you feel a million miles away from urban life while it is still in London ! The gardens are stunning and the Stuart architecture a masterpiece. A beautiful location for a quite day out within the M25.

Visited here a few days ago, we knew the house was closed but still enjoyed it - the downstairs kitchen and cellars were open so we could have a browse round. Gardens very pleasant and cafe did a nice cup of tea. The thing we like about Ham is that Richmond is easily reachable on foot - about a mile away, round a bend in the river. This is a charming and attractive area, often crowded in summer, so we appreciated the quiet and relaxed atmosphere this time. Highly recommended.

We go here often. Its ostensibly rather dark and forbidding but once inside you are gripped with fantastic art work and really well told history exhibits. Dont miss the bathroom or cellars. The NT volunteers are knowledgable and friendly here too. Gardens divine, shop and Orangery tea room great and courtyard loos a delight!!! Go see/use!!!

This is a National Trust property and is well organised, has plenty of history and excellent facilities. The grounds are extensive, there are treats for those with an interest in culinary history and the restaurant serves wonderful freshly made soup at lunctime. Our visit convinced us to join the National Trust which pays for itself after 4 or 5 visits to the incredible range of properties around the country. Well worth a visit with children as well.

Overall a lovely day out at Ham on what started out as a very rainy day. My children really enjoyed the house and garden trails which were perfect for my 7 year old to complete and my little one was great help finding the next clue locations. The volunteers in the house were really helpful and when my daughter and I were talking about the items in the house trail or something we particularly liked in the room, they volunteered additional information. There's also a room with a couple of wooden activities for the children to do - putting all of the cargo onto a ship (the owner was a keen collector of beautiful things from around the world from vases to furniture) and arranging the staff and owners into appropriate rooms in the house to teach them about upstairs/downstairs.Below stairs, we went into the kitchen and there was a lady dressed up as the house cook who told us some very interesting things about the way the kitchen ran and the sorts of food they served in the 17th C. There was also an activity room for the children to try on Stuart clothes and do some arts and crafts which they loved. I would have rated Ham House a 5 if it wasn't for the additional 'volunteer' in the kitchen who was rude and was clear that she didn't want to engage with me, my friend or my children. It was a shame to spoil what had otherwise been such a lovely visit to a very interesting property.

My 5 year old daughter and I had a wonderful afternoon here today, the spooky trail was really good fun. The Halloween arts and crafts was great and the story telling was really enjoyable. We had a fab time building a den and looking around the garden and house. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, we look forward to coming back for the Christmas themed event.

Spent an enjoyable autumn afternoon perusing the downstairs rooms and gardens. A peaceful place to be by the river and a nice cafe to get a tea and scone.
