Really enjoyed the tour, took us right into the factory production areas. Guide was knowledgeable, funny and passionate about beer, couldn't fault anything. Tour included sampling at the end, which was relaxed and not restricted to a couple of mouthfuls. Really really good value money, I totally recommend the tour to anyone (who can climb a few stairs)
i paid for a tour for my husbands birthday and turned out we were the only 2 on the tour, the guide (becky) was to say the least the best guide ive ever had on any tour, she knew everything didnt fluff anything and was very informative, the platter after was to die for she went out of her way to make sure i had exactly what i liked,im very fussy dont like alot, and my husband enjoyed all of his samples,we actually came away with some of the beers and some of the things they were selling,i would definately go again, brilliant 2 hours ever
Fantastic tour. Definitely would recommend if you are in the area. Very informative tour around the brewery showing each phase of the process. Finished up with a sample of 6 local beers. A huge thumbs up
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and lunch at the Wadworth Visitor Centre and Brewery.Very interesting to see the old and the new ways of brewing beers, and to learn about the history of the brewery and the brand itself. Not for the unfit as they are plenty of narrow and steep stairs to climb, and definitely no heels - sturdy shoes are strongly advised. At the end of the tour, I had the opportunity to try a number of beers and a stout on draught, plus a seasonal beer in a bottle. Plenty to drink and I am glad I went into town via public transport! They also sell drinks to the public in 1/3 pint measures, however, it is good value for money.Lunch was a platter consisted of a tasty pork pie, two wedges of cheese (Cheddar and Brie), some cherry tomatoes on vine, a choice of pickle or chutney (I had the pickle and it was very tasty), plus crisps, kind of like a ploughman's lunch without the bread, plus a 1/3 pint of beer of your choice. I found it to be plentiful for a light lunch and good value for money. The visitor centre is well-stocked with their beers in bottles and cans, with some uncommon ones that are not usually available in pubs.I shall return with my car to stock up on Bishops Tipple and Swordfish one day, in addition to 6X, of course. All in all, a good day out and good value for money. Please note that stairs/lift/wheelchair access refers to the visitor centre only and not the tour itself.
We did this with some friends.we booked in advance and took the package that included lunch. It was very interesting - you need to be fit to climb all the stairs, but it is amazing to see how people work in this industry.I am not a beer drinker, but our friends were.Unfortunately we did not get to see the Shire horses because one of them was being stubborn about going back into his stable. It dod not spoil the visit thoughA good time was had by all
Very interesting brewery tour, complete with cooperage and shire horses! Not to mention some great brews.
We had such a lovely afternoon with Dec, the tour host. He was very knowledgable, interesting and fun.I'm not a beer fan although my partner is and yet we both enjoyed this experience. I shall be telling all our friends and family.Note to Wadworths, you have a brilliant employee - he's a real asset!
Excellent value for money, this brewery trip was great, seeing the old style brewry alongside the new brewery, the sign room was great to see traditional sign writing, and the shire horses were beautiful, cannot recommend enough, after the tour we could then sample the beer, well my husband did as I don't like beer and I was driving, he tasted 5 different ones followed by there own version of stout and a small shot of rum, he was taken through how to taste the beers correctly. He thoroughly enjoyed this and has suggested he work team book a tour as a team building trip, excellent trip thank you to the knowledgeable tour guide who answered our questions as we walked around the brewery
Can only really re-iterate what other visitors have already said. Its really good value for money and well worth a visit. You do need to wear sensible footwear as some of the tour involves climbing stairs which, in some parts, are quite steep but not too bad. We went on a Saturday which was good in some respects because it was quiet but on the other hand it would have been really interesting to see the brewing process at work. We had an excellent guide, Shelley, who surprised us by saying that she didn't usually do the tours but she was no knowledgeable and informative, you'd never have guessed. We finished the tour with a sampling session in their bar. Again, Shelley (now in her comfort zone!) gave us excellent information about each of the beers before allowing us to taste them. My husband, who is a big 6X fan, was surprised to learn he really liked some of the other beers on offer, some of which he'd never have thought of trying if he'd had to buy a full pint. Me, personally, I'm a lager fan but even I was surprised to find that I actually liked real ale and might even be persuaded to make the switch! All in all, a very interesting way to spend a couple of hours.
I took husband on the tour and tasting session for his birthday today, wasn't sure if I was really interested but knew he would be. The tour guide (Becky?) was excellent and made everything interesting and accessible. I'm glad I headed the warning to wear appropriate footwear, some of the stairs are steep and narrow stepped, so perhaps not for you if you don't like heights, stairs or the mesh floor on the top level. The sign writers studio and the shire horses are an added bonus. Finished up with 6 tastings of 1/3 pint (by then we were sharing as I was driving) and the lunch platter looked lovely (but I'd booked the nearby pub for lunch). Would recommend and will be taking friends when they visit.
Very interesting tour. Lots of steps so need to be fit. Really helpful and knowledgeable tour guide. Excellent value for money.
This tour is worth every penny! We stared with the lunch platter which was really tasty & included a beer or soft drink in my friends case. This was followed by a really interesting tour with Dec who made the 2 hour tour really informative & fun. For my non-drinking partner this was also enjoyable & she particularly enjoyed the sign writing section ( where every pub sign is individually hand painted ) & the meet up with the drey horses. I can recommend this trip - even for the non drinker.
A great afternoon started with the optional ploughman's lunch (tiny bit disappointed that I did not get a little more cheese when I said I did not eat pork). The tour guide was very good, friendly and knowledgable
The whole visit was so good from booking online to a friendly welcome on arrival. The tour was interesting and Dec presented it very well, both amusing and informative and patiently answering the many questions we asked. Particularly liked seeing the cooper's workshop, the sign writers' workshop and the shire horses. The tasting session was very well presented and the four of us in our group all came away very impressed and pleased that we had gone on the tour and now know and understand more about the brewing process than we did before. Would recommend the trip to anyone who is thinking about it. Thanks Dec.
This tour and tasting is well worth the 10 pound cost. This is a Victorian era brew house that still regularly uses an open copper brew kettle for some beers as well as open fermentation vats. An amazing glimpse into the ancient art of traditional brewing, wooden firkins hand painted pub signs and Shire horses that till make local deliveries daily. You'll work up a thirst for the tasting at the end of the tour...wide variety of beers, all explained by a knowledgeable and friendly torguide. Definitely a must-do...then take a walk in Devizes or grab a bite to eat, but please don't drive right away!
